SM100 for BR

I've decided to buy an older Air Arms SM100 since they have a good pedigree, at least in field target and was wondering if anybody else still campaigns the old AA100 series [EDIT: in addition to Howard and Charlene]. If you have any tips for running them at their best I'd appreciate it. This one has a sporter stock but I'd like to find a BR and a FT stock since I'll use it for both - that's assuming I have more time to shoot that is :)

It's got the Olympic trigger, a Korick reg and the swan neck bolt. The existing stock is a bit rough but serviceable for now. It's set at 12fpe so I'd be using it for LV and/or WFTF field target.

That ancient old couple in SD that have kicked yer butt every time you showed up? They use a pair of those old AA 100 actions. The Woman shot a 250 last weekend. But I bet you already knew that.

I knew she shot an AA100 but since I've never seen her on the forums the question was addressed to those that are. Didn't know Howard shot one too though, now i do. As far as the butt kicking, fortunately Charline wasn't shooting the one time I went - she was doing the scoring and graciously helped me get situated at my first BR match.".. but you and Roger handled the kicking that day for her. :) I think that was the first time I met you too. Wish I could get out there more - I learned a lot even in that one day from the likes of you, Roger, Charline and company.

Best of luck at the upcoming Oxnard match. Sounds like you plan to shoot LV with one of your SS guns?

Charlene delegates the Internet posting To Howard. He is also her airgun mechanic, and does a fine job of keeping those old guns going.

Yes, I'll be shooting the same gun I used at last year's World's match, though I've changed it around several times for different applications, going from LV, the HV, to FT hunter, Open, and back, so most of the components are there between the three guns I took to NC, but I can't recall the exact configurations.

Its still a .177 though, and I have settled on a bit less velocity than I normally use. My .22 gun is set for high power, since I prefer the open class, and it doesnt like shooting at only 20fpe.

Casey,

I have a 22 year old NJR originally set up for me by Nick. I think he picked a really good barrel. I have had good luck with the rifle in BR-50 especially in 1995. I have done well with her in FT over the years mostly at local matches and at Baton Rouge. It no longer has a factory regulator and currently has a Joe Korick. I am shooting crossman premiers at 905 fps lubed with FP10. I get some good braggin' groups. I have some 248/250 on the World target and a couple of 249's. I paid around 1895.00 for it. I have tried a bunch of rifles over the years and always pick this one for the matches except for my EV-2 for LV and international FT.

Yes,

Nick always picked the best barrels for guns going to the guys in the USA. I have an old Shamal, the predecessor to the NJR ... like yours, its not a 100 action though. I bought i from one Brits I competed against here in Ca in the '97 match. I shot great when I got it ... I had Dave Welham install a reg in it while he was out here a few yrs after i got the gun, at the Beeman 100 match.

Sounds like a nice rifle Bob. Other than maybe higher reg output or post-reg volume are you aware of what mods are needed to push these guns to 18-20fpe? When they won all the FT titles here in the 90s I imagine they were being run at high power? I'd love to see some pictures of your setup some time.

Hopefully it turns out this has a good one too. It was owned by Jim Stanis before the person I acquired it from. I should contact Jim and see what he recalls about its origins and if he was the original owner.
