OK dig out all the old magazines, etc and dig back in your memory. I picked up an old Simmons Presidential Ranger scope. Its 6.5x20x40 or 44. Got it at a gun show for $50. Most unusual, its made by Japan Optical Company. Has very good optics and a very unusual reticle. Best I can describe the reticle is that is looks like a standard duplex but the upper vertice has fine wires and about half way up from the center is a rectangle. The extreme top of the visual circle is flatted a bit and numbers appear in a small box as the power is changed. Goes from about 190 at 6.5 to like 600+ at 20x. I have searched (googled) for everything like this and could only find mention of it. Apparently during the 80's Simmons attemped to get in the high end market. This scope appears to have retailed for $400+. I can find no information about the rectangle and numbers. I suspect that rectangle would be a deer body and when adjusted to include the body in the rectangle one could read the range in the numbers. Normally I don't ever buy scopes at gun shows but this was so unusual that it was worth $50 just from the curiousity part. Anyone having an info on this scope, I would sure appreciate hearing about it. Not even sure I have a use for it, maybe put it on a 22 rimfire rifle. Thanks

I think that Light Optical makes the Weaver T series as well as the old 4200 series B&L. You got a heck of a deal.

I bought this scope new in 1987 for $238 and still own it. The retical above the duplex is a range finding variety. The rectangle represents an 18" X 42" size object. The idea is to use the variable zoom dial to put your target inside the rectangle and the yardage to the target is shown in a box the very top of the field of view. This allows you to hold over an appropriate amount to connect with your target. This scope also comes with a bullet drop compensator built into the elevation turret. I believe it came with 4 different dials that coincided with the trajectory and drop of various bullet weights. I zeroed my rifle at 200 yards and could dial in drop compensation up to 600 yards by turning the turret to the estimated yardage. I can also return the dial back to my beginning point of the 200 yard zero. This really works nice for hunting woodchucks and prairie dogs at various ranges. Let me know if you would like a copy of the owners manual.

Did you get...

The different turret caps with it? It also came with a polarized lens and a yellow one too. It even came with a keyring!
Like jboss302, I got mine new and still own it. It is installed on a varmint 6mm Remington. It is clear.
