Sightron 36 vs Weaver 36

I am ready to purchase a scope for my Suhl 150 - rebarreled with a Shilen rachet by Mr. Meyers, Harrell tuner and a McMillan fiberglass stock. Midway has the Sightron 36x on sale for $370 and I can purchase a Weaver 36 for basically the same price. Just checking - are they basically a toss-up performance wise? One just as good as another? Would like thoughts from those who have owned both.

Thanks

I can't knock the Sightron, but I have five Weavers. The one Sightron I had ran out of elevation on a rimfire gun trying to zero at 200 yards. The Weaver I stuck on next, same mount and rings, had plenty of elevation to sight in at 200. The Weaver seems to me to be unbeatable for the price. Unless I needed more than 36x, there is nothing else I will get.

Many folks really like the Sightrons. I'd look at the ARA nationals from the link on the home page and check the epuipment list. See what many of the real competitors use. I think there were many more Weaver than Sightron users. If I remember right there were quite a few in the standings using the Weaver. I have the Weaver T-36 and think its the best for the money, but I have never owned anything else. I just try to do my homework and not waste to much money....I have tried some Leopolds and they were great, but way out of my price range. The thing I hear the most is the Weavers track and hold POA better than most...even the higher doller ones. But that is "here-say", not from my experience.

Dan Killough has the weaver t36 black for 375 shipped and 380 for silver shipped. Its hard to beat the weavers. I try to stay away from midway they will eat you up on shipping. Check Dan's webpage out on the classifeds ---One heck of a nice guy..

Jim, if your on midway's email list, they usually offer a percentage off on spring week, will they do it this year? who knows. that sale is good thru march 31 if you wait untill the 20th they may offer another 10% off. then again they may sell out by then too.

Hey, Jim; I've used both and, as far as I'm concerned, it's a toss up. I had no complaints about either.

Dan Killough is the place to get the Weaver, if that's what you choose. They're good scopes and Dan is great to deal with, and he supports the rimfire shooting sports a great deal.

I have both and I think the sightron may be a little more clear. But I like the weaver also

I have had both. The Sightron I had was a 36X SII. Nice reticle. I compared it to the two Weaver 36X's that I had. At long range there was no comparison. The Weavers had better resoultion than the Sightron. So I got rid of it. Having said that I understand the new Sightron SIII is a totally different scope. So don't know there. Sightron has very good tracking. I have a 6-24 Sightron on one of my varmint rifles and love it. Can't see how it could get much better. Weaver 36X is a very good scope for the money. Seems like you pays your money and takes your chances.

My shooting partner has both. We both shoot 50 yard ARA and Benchrest Silhouette from 65 to 200 meters. That means we do a lot of elevation adjusting during a match. We do not count clicks but go to a predetermined setting. He found it very difficult to read the Sightron knobs and has since put the Weaver on that rifle and the Sightron on the 50 yard rifle. At that renge, we don't loo at the knobs, just turn a couple of clicks one way or another.

Point is, if you are shooting 25 and 50 yards or even to 100 yards, either will work well. But if you need to make a lot of adjustments and don't want to count clicks, the Weaver has better knobs. I happen to have the Weaver and am very happy with it.

Personal experience, not second hand, Weaver customer service sucks; sightron CS is A-1. I had a Weaver T-6X that would not paralax to 50yds., took forever and a day to get the thing back, phone calls were answered by dopes. Sightron, on the other hand, you call them and you talk to the owner, a .22 benchrester, you get a scope history lesson, you learn how a scope works, and if your scope has a problem you get a new one. Of course if you get a scope that has no issues, this is meaningless. Thanks, Douglas

I'd look through both if you can. I have the Weaver, it's a good but not great scope. I would buy another one but only after looking at a few others first.
If you go with the Weaver, as a few others have said, Dan Killough is a first class guy to deal with!

thanks for the numerous replies - good point on the ability to read the numbers on the scope turrets. I had some B&L 6x24 scopes which possessed extremely small numbers could not read them and sold most of them. "Readibility" of the turret numbers is a deal breaker - Dan Killough sounds like the guy to buy from.

Thanks again
