Short Size - Need More

So I am trying to size my 284 Win with Lapua brass and have my type-S die turned down as far as I can, I am still about .037 above the neck shoulder junction. I dont know what I can do other than surfacing my shell holder so that I can get the base of the brass closer to the base of the die? Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dennis

Thanks Dave. I surfaced a shell holder and gained a little. I think I am running the shoulder into the bottom of the bushing before it can reach the sizing portion of it? There is a bevel in the bushing before it actually starts sizing? I was just trying to size it down to the radius of the shoulder neck junction. I was wanting to turn down to that area but will just turn to where I am able to size. This case has a pretty short neck!

Most neck bushings have a radius on each end of the bore. It is there for 2 reasons.

1)this radius aids starting the case neck into the bushing. If it were not there, in many instances the case neck rim would hang on the bushing end and mash the shoulder of the case.

2) this radius is there to make a smooth radial transition of the case neck into the case shoulder, If the intersection were sharp then the brass would fatigue easily and the case neck would pop off...not good.

If you ever have a case neck to stick in the chamber and pop off, the best way to get it out is to put a new bronze bore brush on a sturdy cleaning rod. Then start the brush about half way into the neck, then at that point reverse direction with the rod/brush and the stuck case neck will come out on the brush.

Trying to size the case neck all the way to the shoulder can also help build up a "donut" at the neck shoulder joint.....also not good.
