I am holding shooting classes and a gun safety class this fall for all kids ages from 8 -18 years of age over at the Bullet Hole in Rayne, La. We have been working with local high schools, gun ranges, and numerous businesses to put this on. We will have a class on gun safety taught by a retired game warden, skeet shooting class by Blaine Gary (skeet and trap champion), and basic benchrest and silhouette shooting by myself. All guns and ammo will be furnished along with food and refreshments. It is about a 6 hour class and we are taking 30 kids per class. With the first class all ready full and with such a great interest in the class, we will be seeing if we can add more classes to the remaining year. Our first class will be October 3, 2009. All classes be at no cost to our participants. Since the future of this sport, as well as hunting, rests in the hands of our children, we feel this is a great start in ensuring both are around for years to come. If we teach a kid to respect it and show them how to be good at it, they will end up loving it.

I want to thank everyone that helped me out with this program. It is all for the kids and the sport of shooting. We have been trying to plan this for the last year or two and have finally had enough sponsors pull together for us to be successful.

Scotty,

I have heard several of my friends here at the San Angelo Gun Club express an interest in putting on this kind of class.

If it is not too much trouble, could you or the game warden instructor post a class outline on this subject. We would need somewhere to start.

Have you applied for a grant from the Friends of NRA? They have given our club money for Youth Days, Hunter Safety courses and Ladies Day events.

Bill, im not 100 percent sure of the format on the gun safety class on how it will play out. Joe ( the instructor) will have that in his control, i think from what he had said it will be the basics taught , like in the hunters ed classes,, as or the trap & skeet , Blain will explain what to look for , aiming points , gun follow through and so far... now as far as putting this on ,,,, i have made a lot of phone calls and meet with many businesses in getting sponorship to help expense this . With the economy like it is and businesses are cutting back , but after i explain what the good of this is for the kids , all but one company has donated to the cause . Bill i hope this helps a little , myself i just made a lot of contacts and talk to the right people , In my line of work i deal with many, many customers of mine that i talk to.... good luck out there in getting yall classes going , I like to see more people or clubs do extra activities for the kids ,,,,,will keep you updated on this project as it goes ...thanks Scotty
