I've been on a little bit of a buying frenzy the last couple of weeks. Mostly small stuff. What's interesting is that the USPS has been the fastest shipper. I've had two orders to 21st Century, a week apart, that were placed in priority mail on a Friday and I received it on Monday. A small order from Sinclair was placed in first class mail this last Monday and it's out for delivery today, Wednesday. A different order from Sinclair, a small package sent via UPS, took five days to get here. The UPS shipment from Sinclair spent the weekend in Des Moine. Don't want to draw conclusions based on scanty evidence, but the post office seems to perform better on some things. The post office tracking information is quite detailed now. This is what I saw for the first class item:

Too bad it took so long for them to get their act together.

I have had good luck with the postal service (as long as you dont tick them off).
UPS on the other hand is a joke here in this town.
They will throw your box off the truck in the rain and not even knock on the door when your car is right there in the drive way.
Caught one doing this on a rainy day and asked him about UPS policy of door knocking he said they didnt have one, his supervisor said otherwise but its still the norm here.
They also tend to (at least here) to break more packages than they deliver whole.
At my shop one day a guy lays the box outside my office door runs back to his truck and takes off.
I examine the box to find the top open and most of the contents missing. I chased the UPS driver down and caught him behind the local grocery store.
Forced him to come back to the shop and reclaim his package and mark it as damaged and refused.
The only time I use UPS is if the retailer will not ship any other way, and then I have it shipped to an address in another town where my wife works.

Years ago I sent a very nice Remington shot gun to a Gent in Wisconsin . ($1,700.00) After a week and not hearing anything from him I call and was told he had not received the gun yet . Long story short a U.P.S. dock worker stole it .
Ended up three went to jail
