Just to let everyone know about the shipping problem that I just had with UPS. I bought a 60 pound gun from Leonard Baity in N.C. and had it shipped to Texas. He packed it in a wooden crate and strapped it down with strips of carpet after wrapping it in bubble wrap. He filled all the voids with packing peanuts. That should have been ok to get here. When the crate arrived it had boot marks on three sides and one end was kicked in and most of the peanuts had fallen out. The front rest cradle had broken loose and made three deep cuts in the stock. When we filed the insurance claim with UPS they didn't even send an inspector out but just ask for pictures of the damage. The claim was denied because they said the inspector, who never looked at the gun, reported that the 60 pound gun should have been in a cardboard box. A 60 pound gun would go thru cardboard like a rock thru wet toilet paper. The young lady inspector that I talked to had as much knowledge of guns as I have of perfume. I will never wast money on insuring anything with UPS again. I will also try to never ship anything I care about with UPS. I hope this saves someone else a problem.

My experiences shipping guns UPS has been equally negative. Just so you know, "3 day express" means: 'it'll get there when it gets there'. I was up till 2:00 am retrieving my equipment from a UPS hub 2 hours from it's destination so I would have it in time to shoot a match the following day. This was 5 days into the 'guaranteed' 3 day express timeline.

Pack anything you care about in bombproof packaging too.
