Shilen 2 oz. mod?

Some time back, I bought a DCM 40XR and fitted it with a spare 2 oz. trigger. The first one that I tried was an older Shilen which did not work. I think that this was because the up pressure on the sear (top lever that the cocking piece engages) was too high for the relatively puny rimfire striker spring to overcome. Option two was a Canjar Light Pull, which did work.

Today, while looking for a part for another trigger, I cam across the Shilen, with its rear mounting pin laying beside it, and the sear flipped forward, sear spring out, and third lever over rotated, stopped by the trigger housing. As I put the trigger back together, it occurred to me that the sear spring was the same as a stock Remington, but since the third lever spring was assisting it, that the combination created up pressure on the cocking piece (when installed) that was significantly greater that that of a factory, two lever trigger.

This brings me to my question. Could one not use a replacement sear spring that was made of slightly thinner wire, and which had a lower rate, and by doing so, reduce the up force that that cocking piece sees? Have any of you tried this?

Boyd,
I've put shilen 2 oz triggers in 4 DCM 40XB 22's & not had that problem.

As I remember, the sear on the 2 oz is slightly modified from the regular Rem style trigger. Perhaps the sear in your problem 2oz trigger had been mixed up with a regular style sear.

Regards,
Ron
