Shamrock... 56k warning... Lots o' pics

FULL SHAMROCK RESULTS WITH PICS (results towards bottom of thread)... 56K WARNING.

Today at the Shamrock started out decently calm, but that QUICKLY changed after the 2nd target. With wind gusts in the afternoon upwards of 30mph, the range was not being kind to anyone. With names like Tony Boyer, Wayne Campbell, Allen Arnette, Bill Goad, Jeff Summers, Bart Sauter, Billy Stevens, Bill Forrester, Gene Bukys, Larry Costa, Jack Neary, and many more... we all knew that this was NOT going to be an easy match and anyone who won anything was gonna have to earn it. Just to give you an idea of the wind, there is currently a tornado watch FOR Dublin. So... to say there was wind... is an understatement. Atlanta was hit by a tornado both Friday AND Saturday, and so far Dublin has been JUUUUUST out of reach of the truly hectic weather.

As posted earlier Bill Forrester won this morning with a .16xx agg. The results were not posted as we left the range, but through 4 Wilbur Harris was leading the pack in some truly horrendous weather. Of note was that Bill Goad was able to rip off a SCHWEEEEEEEEEEET .088 this afternoon which EASILY will hold up for the small group.

The wind eventually got so bad that on the last target of the 2nd relay, the wind actually took away Howard Levy's target and tossed it into a pond on the other side of the berm on the right side of the range. Poor Howie.

And we had a SLIGHT delay due to the stationary backers not being used to hurricane force winds. lol.

but so far, MGGOA has done a first class job of keeping everything running smoothly and effeciently. Everything is certainly top-notch. Thank you again MGGOA for putting on a World Class show.

Yep

Why are you calling them stationary backers? It isn't a score shoot.

The moving backers held up but the ones that stay put came down.
In order:Target-Moving Backer-Stationary backer(does not move)

Update Weather tonight, Glad it held off until we were finished shooting

Photo's taken 3-15-08 after the shoot
This is the one that produced a Tornado North of us

Great fun Shooting with some Excellent Shooters, Today was a learning curve for me atleast. Shooting between Brady Knight and The Famous Tony Boyer was kind of intimidating,at first :D ended up with 17th for LV 100 out of 101 shooters-beginners luck?? :)

Stay tuned for more to come!

Sunday at Dublin

Bear with me here, this is the last of the upload. I hope no one is offended about the posting of their pics on the board
Sunday was a little different as far as conditions, there were buggers on the range and the flags seemed to lie quite a bit.

Here we go!
I don't know who this belonged to but it was a purdy rifle

Thanks...

Hey guys, thanks a bunch for posting all the photos and results. It helps smooth the edge off not being there. I, for one, really appreciate it.

Toto we ain't in Kansas no more

Jerry,
Did you see the target take off and fly into the pond?
Matt chased it until he realized he would have to swim to get to it :)

All that talk of tuners scared me off. And another thing, next time you see someone taking your picture turn your good side to the camera. Just a long winter and trying to get this school organized. Things are starting to get moving. Paul is working six and seven ten hour days and it's hard to justify the expense of driving that far to see just me shoot poorly. The pictures and the stories will have to do for me this time. Wish I had been there.
Francis, tuners dominated the Shamrock till early Saturday morning.

I only say about 3-4 tuners in use. I used one on LV200. I had just installed that one. Try to adjust a tuner when the wind is blowing the backers off!!

See Chris and Matthews TUNER/TUNA photo.

We DID miss you and Jan.

My good side?? I didn't know I had one!!

First off let me say that it was a pleasure for MGGOA to put on such an event. Rusty has done a great job teaching the club members to organize the Shamrock Shoot. How Rusty was able to do so much of it in the past is one of those mysteries in life.

Saturday afternoon was quite eventful for the target crew and me.
A wind advisory was in effect (+35mph winds). And a tornado watch. After it had calmed down, a wind meter was reading 20 steady with gusts to 30mph.

The stationary backer is the last part of the target system we are trying to improve. The system we had this year worked well until...

We used an upper and lower cable. The strong wind caused it to start to flap around. Like sticking your hand out the window of a moving car. This caused the top cable move into the target area and get shot.
We have a method for fixing a shot cable in a matter of minutes. However, two other things happend because the wind was so strong.
1. The backers kept flapping and the cable got shot a second time 40' from the first spot.
2. Somehow, the whole system started to wrap itself around the lower cable about 10 to 15 times. This put so much stress on the lower cable that it unbraided a 4" section at the winch.

ROFL!!!! No worries Matt. You did a SUPERB job, ESPECIALLY for someone new running the match. I really enjoyed the match and really appreciate your efforts, and hope that you continue to put on this fine match for years to come. Long live benchrest. Hopefully soon the economy will be out of this recession, and soon be able to make the match bigger. ;):D

Matt,
You and your team did an outstanding job in hosting this match. We had our moving backers bind up one time, these unexpected things happen, if they didn't it would be no fun :D, I for one look forward to doing it again next year.
mmmmmm peach cobbler mmmmmm

Thank you, everyone of you!
