Guys, I am going to purchase a Douglas premium barrel to replace the original chambered in 7.5 x 54 French. The barrel was rechambered to 7.62 Nato to extend its service life, and I would like to make it function properly. The receiver barrel threads are in excellent shape, metric 22mm and a 1.5mm pitch. From internet research, the rifle is extremely reliable. After rechambering, it had timing problems due to the fact that the rechambering shortened the Bbl, so the gas vent was closer, plus, the French round was much milder. This rifle operates on direct gas impingement, like an M16, but way simpler--only 6 moving parts. I will also need to replace the main recoil spring with something beefier and more "manly" :)

Question: Where do I go to find out what distance to drill/ream the gas vent hole (and dimension) for .308 using the direct gas impingement system?

I have bonded with this rifle, so rational responses like "forget it!" will not get through my thick skull :D. Thanks a million!
