Not all NFA dealers do transfers. And not all Class 3 dealers are NFA dealers. Pals of mine have used several of these dealers for transfers, either as an individual owner or in a trust.

The most fun I've ever had shooting was with a pals 1928A1. :cool:

He had four NFA guns in his individual ownership. When he passed away, things got sticky for his family. -Al

You need to be very aware of what the BATF terms the 'handling chain' when dealing with these. These transactions can be smooth as silk and it's the transferring NFA dealer that does the heavy lifting.

There is no place in these transaction for a middle man, however well intentioned.

Agreed. I'm simply tasked with finding/expediting. My FFL will in no way be involved, nor myself except as a gofer

Any compensation to me will be personal and in no way connected to the firearms industry nor my own business. He reached out to me from 40yrs ago just because "I'm a gun guy and know people"

What part needs clarification?

Do "middle men" typically get compensated?

Does saying compensation is not compensation change the fact that it is compensation?

Does taking compensation personally change the fact that it is compensation?

Does designating a "straw man" to receive compensation on your behalf change the fact that it's your compensation?

Meanwhile, in your mind if I find someone with whom he can make a deal...... and he buys me lunch, it's a "straw deal" ???

Or, I have a friend who's been wronged and I tell him "give this feller 'Hunter' a call as he's a great lawyer, I recommend him"

Sorry sir, I'm not buying it. I think your paranoia is showing. There is NOTHING preventing me using my skillset to set him up with a buyer.

He considers me "a professional" and while I'm certainly NOT one in this particular regard, I offered to help find one....

When the day comes I can't recommend a mechanic to a friend and him send me a card of thanks, the lawyers have gotten out of hand.

IMO what Al was referring to is the fact that I can in no way enter into any part or parcel of the transaction, nor take possession, nor package the firearm for shipping, nor involve my FFL nor my business in any way.

IF, on the other hand, Al is in agreement with you that the act of me saying "hey buddy, come on over here, I want to introduce you to my new friend"..... "maybe you'se can do some business together, kapische?" ....is a crime......

I'll listen. I'll consider it. And I'll research it.

Meantime, last time I remember you offering me your legal opinion you told me that if subpoena'd I must appear.... you felt my response of "stick it in your ear" was inappropriate.....
