"Scrap" barrels for machining practice?

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a couple of shot-out barrels to practice my threading and chambering skills before carving up something new. Any thoughts?

I asked one of the custom smiths and was given several pull-off barrels for the cost of shipping. Most go to the dumpster anyway. Beware too much erosion will doom your efforts to cut a precision chamber.
