Scoring

At the club where I shoot we shoot the usbr target. Since most people use the ara, or the ir50/50 target. Was kind of wondering how the scores at our matches would relate to ara, ir50 scores. Does anyone have a method of converting the scores. Anyone have a idea what scores in the 245 to 248 range would equate to so I can have a comparison to ara, ir50 .

USBR Ring Size:

10 0.100"
9 0.300"
8 0.550"
7 0.850"
6 1.200"
5 1.600"
4 2.050"

The largest group that would score 250 0X on the USBR target would be 0.224" + 0.100" = 0.324". A 2500's smallest group is 0.276".

Outside of perfect targets, it's hard to translate an arbitrary score from one target type to another without having the actual shots as an errant shot(s) are punished differently in each of the disciplines along with many different possible combinations of misses to arrive at a particular score. A 249-24X on the USBR target could potentially measure as .524" and a 225-0X could potentially measure as small as 0.524". So you can see why trying to translate a score on one target can be really hard without plotting each shot as group size doesn't really tell you much either.

It takes extreme concentration to shoot targets the same as well. I remember shooting my first ARA target, immediately after a 50/50 match. What I clearly remember is that I said to myself...this is gonna be easy. It turned out not so easy! I think I placed nearly last...or at the least where I didn't want to place. You have to shoot at the very center. If you do it that way it doesn't matter which target is hanging...but watch out as you'll find yourself just hoping for a good shot.
