One of the biggest surprises of the entire event was Kim Llewellyn after having a relatively dreadful day at 200 yards was the

ONLY PERSON TO SHOOT A 250 at 300 yards

Congratulations Kim !!!!

Congrats to all, were there any two guns contested?

Paul

Did I beat anyone to that question?

I had the privilage to shoot 2 benchs over from Kim Llewellen all weekend and she put on a show on Sunday at 300 after getting roughed up bad at 200 on Sat.While everyone else was getting roughed up at 300 Kim just kept shooting exceptional targets all day long, I don't think she had a shot close to the edge of the 10 ring all day untill the last match when nerves were getting to her and she had a shot cut the outside of the 10 ring but she took her time and regrouped and finished the target with what looked to be 2 x's, it was a masterful job of shooting. I also witnessed a first when Kim fired her last shot and it went in all the folks that were on the line and those behind the line watching gave her a round of applause, I have attend a lot of matches and I don't recall that ever happening before. When Herbie came to the line his eyes were misty and you could see him bursting with pride and joy for his lovely wife's win. Congratulations to Kim and Herbie( Herb finished 2nd at 200) and Randy Jarvis , Sara Harren and Bill Sargent for there grand wins and to all the rest that shot well. Thanks to Carl Baker for scoring and all the rest of the crew, everything ran smooth. Good job, Steve

Congratulations to all the winners, especially Kim. I love it when someone, a very nice lady in this instance, steps out of the shadows and into the spotlight occaisionally.
Sorry we couldn't make this one, but have another beautiful little grand daughter as of 5:45 PM last Wednesday evening. Everybody is doing fine.:)
See ya'll in Ohio.

Thanks for the "report", David.
Congratulations, Randy J., Sarah and Bill - well done by all! :) And, probably, all with brand X bullets! ;) RG

That's rediculous! It may also be true, but it's rediculous all the same.

Paul

It is true.

I ran the 100/200 2 gun at Thurmont for 3 years at the 100/200 State Champ. The first year W.Shaw and Clark Shen battled it out, the 2nd Year Clark won the award by default as he was the only 2 gun shooter, the third year the award went unclaimed.

The 2 Gun has a fair amount of success in Iowa and Wisconsin. But there has never even been an agenda Item submitted for a 200-300 Two gun. This in my mind can only be attributed to lack of interest among a sufficient number of shooters.

:)Great Shooting Kim, In some tough winds that did not make much sence to most, Kim came out like a true champion. All of us knew she is a good shooter, and today she proved it. GREAT SHOOTING

It just might also

have to do with a lack of 300 yard ranges to contest the 2-gun on.

There is some truth to that but I have a good supply of 300 yard ranges I myself frequent.

Thurmont Md
Mt Airy Md
Mainville PA
Weikert Pa

are within 200 miles

and Damariscotta Me.

Although it is 600 miles I go to their annual October almost every year.

I will tell you it is a fact and you may well dissagree but I have been putting on score shoots for 25 years , on an average day at a good range a one hundred yard event will pull more than a 200 event and a 300 yard event gets you an even bigger decrease in attendance.
All the good shooters will come, but the casual shooters that are not die hards are less likely to to come to longer ranges . I believe it is beacuse it is much easier to drop a point at longer ranges.

I will not argue your logic. But your view of the world, as you describe, ends somewhere east of the Ohio river. And there is a WHOLE lot more out there than that. And there are not a lot of 300 yard venues, even if you include what you have described.

Paul, the lack of 300 yard venues was the reason for not originally petitioning for a 1,2,3 or a 2, 3 2 gun. As you can see from the current support and promotion, even a 100, 200 2 gun is a Midwest Animal. All the records are held here at least. And does not even seem to make a hiil of beans east of the Ohio. Too much chasing of the 250-25.

Sara shoots a 30BR, .331 neck, .050" freebore. The rifle is one of those "junk" Remington 700 actions, trued and barreled with a 3 groove, 17 twist Lilja. It is pillar bedded in a McMillan Edge stock, and has a Burris HBR 6X scope. She uses 110 gr bullets made by a Liar. They are 7 ogive on J4 .925 jackets.

Thank You

for the warm congratulations. I too would like to congratulate all the yardage and grand agg. winners. I would be remiss if I didn't point out how well run and efficient the Nationals were run by the Thurmont crew. It was evident that many members helped in this endeavor. The relays were run efficiently but not hastily. The grounds were well manicured, the food hot and tasty, and the beverages were cold. Cold was a good thing because the weather was HOT as Hadies. Too hot for this northern boy!

Thank you Dick and Carol Grosbier for your hospitality. Thank you Rod Morton for allowing me to be part of your rotation. And thank you David Apple for the assistance with my rifle. You were a big part of why it was in tune. Randy J.

Thanks to all the shooters who traveled from near and far to make the 2008 IBS Long Distance Nationals a success. It is a lot of work and thanks to a bunch of great volunteers, we made it happen. It has been our goal, at Thurmont, to try and treat visiting shooters as friends and guests.
I would like to thank some of the people, without whom, we would surely suffer. First to the best target crew around. Wynn Ingham, Jerry Gibbon, Ed Sybert, Fred Ridgway, Carl Baker, Dave King and Brad Golner. Sara and I helped some too. Dawn and Curtis Nelson for running the match. Ray Hauver and John Moore kept the food and cold beverages flowing. Dave Apple manicured the range and had it in first class shape. Dean Breeden keeps us supplied with the much needed cardboard for the backers. Last but, not in anyway least, Dick and Carol for all their time and attention. We aint perfect but we try.
