Hi everyone,
As the title suggests i am having HUGE difficulty trying to find a set of scope rings to fit my Steyr SSG Pll. Does anyone know of a brand/make that will do?
Im trying to attach a 30mm Leupold 8.5-25x50
Thanks for your help,
Dave.

Davey,

A SSG and Tikka 595 have the same mount dovetail. A quick google of Tikka scope rings suggests that Millet and Warne can supply affordable rings for your SSG. SWFA is one vendor.

US Optics makes a 20 moa picatinny base for it then you can use any rings you want.

Fantastic! once again thanks very much for the swift responses.... I have just sourced some second hand Warne mounts for the Tikka....il keep my fingers crossed...

I hope you won't be disappointed by the Warne mounts but they probably won't fit properly.
I've just gone through the same exercise and spoke directly to Warne and Talley about this and both said the mounts were different. Warne used to make SSG mounts so if you can source them you're in luck but they have been discontinued for some time.
I went with the Talleys as the easiest option. There are other bases and mounts that are either more expensive or require drilling and tapping.
One thing to watch about the QD Talleys is that they will scratch your stock as you tighten them that last turn. The "permanent" mounts might be better if you don't intend to remove the scope often.

Well regarding the Warne mounts i actualy bought a pair and fitted them and they fit perfect! The thing is the dovetail is the same size and type as the Tikka, but the Warne mounts (for the Tikka) come with a small silver pin that must fit into a slot on the Tikka but once you open up the mounts the silver pin can be removed and everything is snug on the reciever. The only problem is the ones that i bought are too low! my Leupold was touching the barrel, so iv ordered a high pair...i will post some photos once i recieve them....Could be a good result for a very expensive problem!:D

I have a Tikka T3 which according to a quick google search has the same size dovetail as the Tikka 595/695 discontinued models. This is not the same size as the SSG dovetail as I checked this option before I went to the Talleys. If memory serves the Tikka dovetail is narrower. (I don't have the Tikka handy to check it). While I suppose a Warne or any other similar flat top dovetail mount could be made to work I think it would leave a large gap on the locking side of the mount as the other side of Warne mounts is fixed or at least it is in other Warne mounts I have. This means that the scope will be positioned a little off centre to the bore. That may not matter much depending on your particular optical needs. If you don't mind the additional gaps because of the size difference in the dovetails, you might want to consider the Millett AngleLok Tikka rings which are "windage" adjustable. They have clamps on both sides to adjust for windage so you could I suppose even out the protrusion on each side to get the scope over bore. My recollection is also that the actual groove that the mounts clamp into on the SSG and Tikka are not exactly the same profile though I doubt that makes a lot of difference for most purposes.

Just remembered that I also contacted Sportsmatch in the UK to see if their Tikka mount would fit the SSG and they said it would not. Their mount has a "recoil arrestor pin" which I am presuming is the same as the pin you describe on the Warne. The Tikka is drilled and tapped so I suppose the pin goes into one of those holes to act as a recoil stop.

Yes your right there is an arrestor pin but that pin falls out when you sepetate the mount dead easy..that leaves you with the width difference...I believe the styer is 17mm and the tikka is 16mm. All I can say is when I tightened the mount up the gap closed completley and it didn't look like it would fit any better if you tried

Buy Factory Rings

You can now buy factory 1" & 30mm rings direct from Steyr online. The factory rings have a recoil stop thats difficult to see in the picture. I have both sizes and they work great on my Steyr SSG PKII.. You can also order extra magazines here too..
