I checked out those discontinued XR-100's and decided I am going to buy one in 223. With the prices lowered on them, coupled with Remington's $50 rebate, my out of pocket cash is $680. So next I must choose a scope. Any recomendations? I like Leupold and Weaver, but not sure what power.

xr 100 scope

I used a nikon 6x24 on mine,it worked great for hunting and benchrest!

It Depends

Depending on what you plan to use it for, I have had two scopes on my XR .308. I first had a Nikon Buckmaster 6-18X40 FCH-dot reticle, then I wanted to make it a factory class BR gun so I got a Weaver T-36 power.

I love the Nikon and put it on my go-to hunting rifle (7MM WSM Coyote).

Huntinfool: I have three XR-100's in three different calibers. They shoot so well that in a couple of cases I "upped" the power range of the variable scopes I use on them now, from the original scopes I had on them.
#1: XR-100 in 204 Ruger with Leupold 8.5x25x40mm
#2: XR-100 in 223 Rem. with Leupold 8.5x25x40mm
#3: XR-100 in 22-250 Rem. with Leupold 6.5x20x40mm
I firmly believe the XR-100 is one Rifle that can benefit from lots of scope power to further enhance its accuracy and extend its range.
My XR-100's are used for Varminting purposes almost exclusively.
I say "pump up the power"!
Best of luck with whichever scope you choose.

What exactly is your use?

I like 6.5-20x or 8.5-25x for rifles that are going to be used mostly from a bench.

For hunting/field rifles, I prefer a 4.5-14x so that I can get more FOV on deer, coyotes, or whatever other game when turned to 4.5x, but 14x usually does what I need it to for group shooting/load development and to get shots out to 400-500 yards on coyotes, deer, and so on.

For prairie dogs, go with 25x.
