Scope question

Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and green at long range shooting. I recently bought a CZ 550 varmint in 308 and wanted to shoot 600 to 1000 yards. I got a Nikon Monarch 8x32x50ED scope which I found out only has 20 MOA adjustment. I got a 20 MOA rail but I want something better. The something better that I have settled on is a Nightforce in either 8x32x56 or 12x42x56. The thing that I am confused about is that most of the searches I have done on this and other boards is that most long range shooters prefer the most magnification but again you loose adjustment range.

If I got a 12x42 with the 40 MOA I would only have 20 up plus the 20 from the rail which would get me out to a 1000 but I would using the very top of the optics, not the sweet spot. Would it be better to get to go with something like a the 5.5x22 which has 100 MOA adjustment and sacrifice magnification for using the center of the optics?

I may be over thinking this but if I'm going to spend that kind of money I would like it to be useful for as many rifle upgrades in future as it can be.

Thanks!

Headgear,

Make a copy of this thread and post on the 600/1000 yard forum too. That's where the long range guys hangout.

Go with the Night force scope and be glad you did. The new sightron 10x50 is another solid performer in the 600 yard game and a couple hundred less than the NF. Good luck!! Lee
