scope choice

I'm new to benchrest shooting. I'd appreciate opinions on high powered scopes. I've borrowed 36x scopes from friend for silhouette shooting, but I got tired of looking for the target I'm supposed to shoot or shooting the wrong target. Can you give me you opinion on scopes from 36x up to 55x, their advantages and disadvantages. I can only think of mirage read as a advantage but I'm out of me league on this matter. And would you recommend a Weaver T 36x or a Leupold 36x discontinued model as I would like to start out with moderately priced scopes before moving up if there is performance to be gained by March and Nightforce scopes. Thanks for you expert opinions.

The weaver and leup36 are good and more importantly, good enough. Clearer scopes mean less eye fatigue and you can tell the difference but it's not worth the price to me. 1/8th minute clicks makes a difference so I took my leup off and put a cheaper sightron on. It's also, good enough.

Mirage can also be a disadvantage. If you need field of view, then something less than 36x should be better. Look at the variables that go up to 32x.
The lower power also gives a brighter and usually clearer view.

Good answer Don. 1/8 min dot is a must have also. just a thought.H.B.:)
