Scope adjustment

When one click of adjustment for windage or elevation is half a click to much what or the options.

Hold the edge of the ten ring instead of dead center. Very seldom hold dead center anyway. Always small changes in velocity and direction to account for.

I would suspect either you replace the scope with one with 1/8 clicks or get used to aiming a bullet hole off.

I guess you could get adjustable mounts to move the scope slightly but that puts a bad taste in my mouth and would seem like a never ending problem.

1/8" click adjustments at 100 yards equal 1/16" clicks at 50 yards. 1/16" equals .0625". That is approximately 1/4 of a bullet hole at 50 yards.. If you need closer adjustments than that, you are a better shooter than I am. Even you have 1/4" adjustments at 100 yards, that would equal 1/8" at 50 yards which is .125" and which is approximately 1/2 of a bullet hole at 50 yards...
Either case, you should be able to get sighted in with any decent 24X to 36X scope.

I'll do a little better than Dave S. The maximum the center of your group could be off at 50 yards with 1/8 min adjustments is .03. Determining this much group offset would take a lot of groups and some careful measurements!

Optical Center

The adjustments of most scopes, could be way off, if you are not Optically Centered.

would it be too much trouble for you to explain this optically centered business and how to attain it. it remains a mystery to me and is causing me problems.

Hey cwop, it's just this simple! If you are not in the center of your working range of adjustments you may think you are cranking in .0625 adjustment, when in fact, you are getting .0626! Or if you have a really bad (cheap) scope you might even get .0627!

Makes no differance

Bob:
Even Leupold's can give you problems if you are at the end of your adjustment range. That's way having you scope Optically Centered, is the best way to get the most out of your scope. To check your scope, mount it in a V Block, and rotate the scope 90 degrees either CW and CCW. The cross-hair/dot should remain close to your POA. If not, rotate the adjustment knobs and repeat this test. You continue until you have achieved the desired results. Otherwise, just send them back to Leupold and tell them you are having difficulty with the scope holding POA. They will check it over and recenter the optics so when you get it back, all you need to do is mount and check again. It the cross-hair/dot are not relatively close to POA, shim your bases or use Burris Signature Rings with the proper insert to make the adjustment. You want your scopes usable adjustment range to be entered. This is not an uncommon problem, if your scope was piurchased used, or you used excessive windage or elevation adjustment to correct a mounting problem
