Hi: I have 4 S&Ls, all different models. Without the gun in your hands to verify the barrel number, I think the info listed in the sales ad is incorrect. The photo of your new gun does not fit the research for barrel #4596. This barrel number indicates a gun (Model 33) made between 1945-1958 (#4001-#13144) and at the lower end of the numbering the model would look more like a sporter rifle. One test would be to look at the tension extractor on the bolt. The M33 uses the left-side tension extractor and one piece firing pin. Later model M70 type use a right-side tension extractor with a two piece firing pin. The bolts are not interchangeable. The bolts may be barrel matched (at least numbered). Attempts to interchange bolts on the various models I own have not proven to be very successful. Some adjustment to the bolts is possible with the use of shims. Again, from the photos, the gun has all of the earmarks (sights, trigger, and stock) of an early M70, produced between 1959-1968 (#13145-#17440). Parts are a little difficult to find, but unless something is broken the gun should give you tons of pleasure at the range. Good luck!

Rifle received.
Ser. number:4596(left side of barrel).You can see it on this picture:

Mark on barrel: “GE/AERFABRIKEN OTTERUP”.

Weight: 8 lbs.
Barrel length: 25 ¾”.
Overall length: 42 ¼”.
Century International Arms(importer) placed on right side on barrel:
"DENMARK. MDL.24 CAL.22"
I do not see ser. number on bolt. Only "3" on both sides of bolt handle (base).
So, what is it? M24 or M70 ???

S&L Model clarification

Hello Lavriccat - after your last post with the additional information, it appears you have a Model 33. This model started production around 1933 beginning with barrel number 4,001 through 13,144. There are no yearly production numbers, so you may have to guess what year it was produced. The gun may be a hybrid with the bolt and extractor on the left side of the receiver produced on earlier guns as later models would have been a right side extractor. The Model 33 is comparable to the Model 24, but with an improved look. The front-sight was changed to a Lyman-type with inserts, the barrel was flush with the receiver. The stock is generally associated with the M58-M70 version, so it may have been replaced at some point - although you'll never know for sure, as the S&L records have not been released for the 22lrs.
