Looking for ideas on a digital scale or any scale that can be used at registered matches. Looking for something that is repeatable yet affordable.

Thanks in advance.

Weights and measures

I have seen shooters who are close to weight limits be accepted into the class they want to shoot in at some matches and rejected at others. Nothing much has changed in 20 odd years. In Australia we have the Govt department that certifies scales, gas pumps etc. Perhaps it's time clubs bought scales that meet the Government weights and measures for trade standards and have them certified once a year with a tollerance suitable for BR shooting. That way if you get rejected you will be rejected virtually at any match. I know there would be problems implementing something like this but it may be worth it in the long run.

The NBRSA has a set of check weights for the 10.5 and 13.5 pound rifles. Using these check weights, you can use any reasonably accurate scale. You just use the check weighs to see how much they weigh on your scales. That then becomes the correct rifle weight for that scale, at that time. I also got them to make me the additional weight to check my scales for the 17 pound long range light gun. My scales are a set I got from Harbor Freight.

To hold a proper registered match, you must have a set of scales and a set of the check weights.

Thanks for the input guys. I actually have a My Weigh for my own use so I will look at picking a few more up for the active clubs and contact Audrey Brown or Don Nielsen about the certified weights.

Absolute truth.

Without check, weights all the scale gives you is a nice guess at what the rifle weighs. If it is any where near indicating the correct weight you cannot rightfully disqualify a rifle unless perhaps it is 3 or 4 ounces over allowed weight and many other rifles seemed to weigh correct weights. IBS rules allow one ounce for scale errors. This does not mean any rifle is ok as long as scale shows it no more than 1 oz overweight , it means if 10.5 lbs of check weights indicates 10 lb 7 oz on the scale then 10 lb 8 oz is upper weight limit that should be indicated on a legal rifle in that class, Not 10 lb 9 oz on the scale. under these details 10 lb 9 oz is an illegal rifle . On the other hand if ten lb 5 oz of check weights indicates 10 lb 12 oz a rifle weighing 10 lb 13 oz is legal on that scale.
