Savage target actions

Has anyone put together a rifle with one of these single shots yet...and if so, what are your results and thought on it??

I shot my first match today with my new rifle. It's the left port/right bolt configured Savage target action. Basic info: Broughton 5C 1 in 8 barrel chambered in 6BR, SSS Dogtracker stock w/adjustable buttplate added, Ken Farrell 20 MOA mount, Nightforce scope. I am very impressed so far, I shot my best score ever for a 600yd F-Class match. I am undecided about the trigger, I admit I hate having that blade thing sticking out of my trigger, don't like the feel. However that can be changed. The action is stiff, bolt not as smooth as some yet, but plenty useable, and the price is great for an action of this quality I think (not a pro or a gunsmith here) I am considering another one for a dedicated varmint rig.

Gary M.,

Instead of me typing everything over again click here: http://forum.gon.com/showthread.php?t=366263 and look at all the pictures especially the finished ones way down at the bottom.

By the way I have read many posts stating that they did not like the target Accu-trigger. Well I must either got lucky because my action was made in February this year or Savage have improved it. I love it just the way it was set at the factory. I do not know what the weight of pull is yet, but it is very light and very safe. I have engaged it and then jarred the butt very hard against the floor and it has never let the trigger disengage. :):):)

Savage Target Actions..

I have over 100 customers shooting them. Mostly F-Class. By far the best laminated stock was made by Carl Bernowski(sp). The best synthetic stocks for the money have been Kevin Rayhills. The Bell & Carlson also makes an inexpensive stock. McMillian offers a couple top of the line stocks. I currently am building a target action in one of Gary Elesio S1 tube stocks. Dave Kiff makes a both round and fluted bolt bodies, Kevin Ray Hill makes two different longer bolt handles. I do them with or without the barrel nut. They make great rigs for 6mmBR through 308, including 6.5 X .284.

Jeff Sauders just broke a F-Class TR record at Butner with his and it should be posted by the NRA any day. He has a switch barrel gun, 308 and 6mmBRX. John Skowron shoots ANY/ANY and is a High Master shooter with a 197 ag.

I just finished one. Its a RPRP with a Shilen 260 Rem. barrel in a SharpShooterSupply LRBR stock. I replaced the AccuTrigger with a Rifle Basix SAV-2 because of a too hard a pull weight. If I lightened the weight to where I wanted it wouldn't pass the drop test. I have two other AccuTriggers that are fine. The rifle came out very nice and is shooting well. I'm quite happy with it. BTW, I had the action timed and trued by SharpShooterSupply. It made a big difference in the smoothness of the action.

The one I have currently set up is a RBLP action, trued & timed by Fred Moreo of SSS, with one of his Evolution 2 oz. triggers installed. The barrel is a 30" stainless Rock 5R 1-7.8" tw 'SS1000yd' contour installed in a no-nut configuration, chambered as a 6 Dasher running S107MKs or B105VLDs @ 3080fps. Stock is a McRee modular rifle stock set up with the 3" wide fore-end, and with the cheek piece and pistol grip removed. Primary use is for F-Class. I'd like to get it to a 600yd BR match, but no luck so far due to timing.

300yd groups are very good, and so far its earning its keep in some 500yd 'league' matches. The limiting factor at this point seems to be less the gun than the idgit operating the coax rest top. Haven't had the opportunity to shoot it in matches further out.

Here's a pic from the range while load testing...
