I am putting a new well known barrrel maker's pre chambered prethreaded barrel on an old 70's era 110 Savage. I have several other rifles that have switch barrels that I check the headpsace on when I switch; these are Remington 700's so I have a little experience. There seems to be a lot of slop when screwing together the various parts on this old Savage. The spanner nut was very loose fitting on the new barrel it cross threaded starting it a couple times it was that loose. The barrel to reciever fit was also sloppy you could get a little movement even when the barrel was screwed in past the distance the bolt would shut. The lug is a new precision ground one. When tightened all together it seemed to lock up but getting the headspace to correct tolerences required several tries as the system seated on the threads. I should have tried the old original barrel to see how loose it was but didnt as it is packed away somewhere. Is there a lot of tolerence allowance in this system to allow for the sloppy fit. Or are there things I should be aware of like perhaps checking the headspace occasionally?
Thanks in advance STBE

Looseness in 60 degree threads isn't that important. They will center when tightened. Once you have the barrel nut tightened at the correct headspace setting, it will not change when using the rifle.

Are you sure you have the correct diameter shank on that barrel for your action. The Savage actions have two different size shanks. I'm not sure about an older 70s era #110, but you might want to check.
