I have a Model 10 in 223 Rem, I have 2 stocks for it, both are bedded.
One a Kevin Rayhill and the other a factory stock.
Question: If I can find a used model 12 or buy from Northland a new Model 12 action
will the inletted and bedded stocks for the Model 10 work
w/o too much alterations?? thanks in advance as I don't know much
about the different Savage CF models

yes, as they are both short actions. here's the kicker, savage has changed magazine designs which makes earlier and later stocks incompatible. the older rifles had a stagger feed magazine, which stayed attatched to the reciever. the newer rifles have an inline magazine, the magazine stays in the stock. there are not currently as many options for stocks for the newer inline magazine rifles. i personally prefer the older stagger feed rifles, and think savage messed up changing them.

The stock situation for the new centerfeed is getting better, more stock makers are producing them now.

In the long run though I prefer working with the older staggerfeed. Currently I'm building a 280 Ackley on an older staggerfeed action. Barrel will be 28" long. 1 in 8 twist with a .850" muzzle diameter. The rifle will see a lot of shooting at 1000 yards so I'll be testing 150, 168 and 175 grain SMK's.

Measure the action assembly screw spacing and use that when ordering or finding another stock.
4.275" short action staggered feed.
4.400" short action center feed.
