Savage LRPV

I have a Savage LRPV in .223 and the bolt has quit a bit of slop, if i dry fire the gun the bolt will hop with about .25 inches of movement is this normal?

If you are referring to the bolt handle lifting a tad, it's not unusual in bolt guns. When you fire a round, the pressure of the case on the bolt face stops that movement.

Get your self a PT&G .701 bolt body. It will require some fitting and the primary extraction may have to be adjusted. If not qualified get a good Savage Gunsmith to fit it. It wll be a world of difference.
