I am going to purchase a new rifle with my tax return and would like your input on which rifle and why. it will either be a savage lrpv in a 6br or a cooper 6br, I can get the cooper for 1250.00 and the savage for 999.00 which one would you buy?

Contact Jim Briggs of Northland and you can get the LRPV for considerably less than what you posted.

the cooper is a really nice piece BUT get the savage, it's a real shooter, got 2 both are bug holers

Not even close to a contest!

Coopers and Savages are just about all I own. Not even a contest, get the Cooper.

Rick

I shoot in a factory varmit class shoot aganist coopers with those cheap savages like I and so many others shoot in the same matches won shooter of the year with a savage vlp aganist coopers havent seen them in the top three so it sure sounds like not even a contest, by the way the coopers are 6br the savage is a 223 and these matches are score matches.

Another vote for the Savage LRPV over the cooper - LPRV should be 800 to 900 bucks, put the extra money in a better scope.

Just had a bad experience with a cooper in 6Mm Rem. After 800 rounds, still could not get it to shoot well consistently. Waited months for it, paid $1350 for it.

Gave up, bought a savage lrpv action, douglas barrel prechambered and muzzle braked from SSS, worked up a good load in 60 shots, on the way to shoot PD's

Not even a contest, get the LRPV - there are 8 of them going with us and they all are excellent shooters.

I think you misunderstood my answer. The original poster asked for advice about which one to buy. He didn't ask which was most accurate or whatever.

OK, so you won shooter of the year in factory class...whoopee ding. I'm pleased you got a good Savage. That's not unusual. The difference could be a lot of things including the shooter, mileage on the rifles or just plain luck.

The Cooper is a better made rifle, looks better, handles better and will hold it's resale better. Most of the shoot better that the average Savage, but not all. It's a better buy and this comes from a fella who owns more Savages than Coopers.

Friend,
If you trying to say Cooper's don't shoot, I don't think you'll get much support. But you are certainly entitled to your opinion.
Rick

From the two rifles mentioned

Best bang for the buck=Savage
Best resale=Cooper
Pretty=cooper
Most versatile and easy to smith yourself or change barrels, calibers ect=Savage
More aftermarket support=Savage
Best shooter=LUCK OF THE DRAW.

IMHO

Thanks guys. I'm going with the savage. I handled the cooper yesterday and felt like if i scratched it I would vomit(it's that nice). If I scratched the savage oh well more character.

Very happy with my LRPV

I don't think you will be dissapointed with the Savage LPRV, I bought one last year in 22-250 with the 1-9 twist.
It shoots incredibly well with 69 MK, N540 powder.
They are correct as far as looks go compared to a Cooper, but you will have more luck with the Savage for aftermarket items.
I just received a stock from Fred Moreo (Savage Shooters Supply) and am looking forward to shooting this with something that will ride the rest better.
Very nice stock and Fred & Lisa are good people.
I wish Savage had an option for a 6br when I got mine!
Go for it.

Rob,

Are you bringing your Savage to the Delaware State match next weekend?

Adrian

Not going to the match

Adrian- I have to work to pay for more bullets and powder!
Good luck at the match!
