Savage Accutrigger inconsistency

I took the accutrigger blade off my new Model 12 BR
and the trigger adjusted down to about 6 ozs., and
I was pleased for a factory trigger.. Just when groups had gotten
in the 1/3 MOA range (6BR) the trigger started getting lighter and
slam fired a couple of times. This rifle is my 200 yd factory class
gun and can bring home some wood again if the blasted trigger would hold
adjustment and not get lighter during use.. Hope someone can offer
idea to stop this. Match one week from today 8-29-09.. I don't have the
accutrigger adjustment tool, I just use a small screw driver..
I will get a new Evolution trigger from SSS but not enough time now..
advice needed and thanks

PS- It's now at 6 ozs. but getting lighter every shot

I think that what is happening is that the corner of the engagement surface is becoming rounded, reducing engagement to a value that is to small for the reset force provided with the spring set as light as you have it. Wanting a lighter trigger than the stock design is suitable for is no excuse for going to the line with an unsafe trigger. Crank up the spring pressure to a pound and a half, and given that we know that the parts may have rounded, put the blade back in, restoring the factory safety feature. If that does not cure the problem, discontinue shooting the rifle until you have replacement parts or a different trigger that is safe.

I have a Rifle Basix SAV II trigger set at its lightest, which is 4 oz. It seems to be reliable at that weight. If I were building a gun strictly for bench work at the range, I would take a serious look at Fred's latest trigger, which I understand requires that he install it.

Put the blade you shouldn't have removed back on before you hurt yourself.

Send a letter or call Jewell...

Tell them there is enough demand to warrant their marketing the Jewell triggers for Savages.

As other have said. Put the blade back in. Last weekend in an f-class shoot I had the guy next to me drop 2 points because he accidentally bumped his trigger when he put his finger on what he thought was the trigger guard.

I haven't made the same mistake myself but when I do the accutrigger will save me from a badly dropped shot.

Anyone that replaced the 6-10oz accutrigger want to sell theirs? My 1.5-6lb is just too heavy for score or group shooting. Want to use Savage parts for factory class and appearance.
