I recently bought a 110 FP 300 mag. for long range shooting. I was told it could be a 1000 yrd gun? Has any body had any dealings with this rifle?

That's a good caliber and a good gun for 1K. Take it to a range and shoot it, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

If you haven't shot 1k before, welcome! Get out there and shoot what you have! You can always build one later when you get hooked, and you WILL get hooked!

I took my 300 to the range saturday and was pleased with the gun exept for the recoil. I weigh 135 lbs and the 300 put a whoopin on me. The gun is a synthetic with heavy barrel @7.25 lbs. I filled the stock with lead weights and sand. I would guess it to weigh around 16 lbs now. But the recoil pad on the gun is a hard type rubber. Is there any after market pads out there that will bolt on?

Yes, it's called a muzzle brake!!!!:D:D:D

Unless you get that gun up to at least 50 pounds, a pad isn't going to change alot of the felt recoil.

Savage in 300

I think I just posted on reducing recoil on the other thread.
Any way I have 3 Savages and I love them. I get 1/2 groups out of 5 different loads with the 300. It's an easy gun to work on and very upgradable. I'm rebarreling one to 338 RUM. As an entry level gun for the frugal I'd suggest them in any caliber to any one.

I had the same problem with my stock Remington 700 in .300 Win Mag, which I solved the same way you did. I added as much weight as possible to any nook and cranny possible. Once you do that - your about maxed out until you go to the muzzle breaks. I did install a "performance" recoil buttpad... the results were marginal.

The gun weighs in at 14.6 lbs. I added 2 inches of foam plus a slip on limbsaver recoil pad to the butt. Going to try it again this sunday. Wish me luck!!!!

It worked!!!!

I just got back from the range. I had a good and bad outcome. The added weight and extra pads took alot of the recoil out. Its like shooting a .308. The bad news is that a Tasco varmint/target scope will not hold to the recoil. O well ill try something else. All in all it is very pleasant to shoot know. I have a ultimate sniper stock comeing soon. Thanks for all the advice.

Muzzle Break Magic

I have one of these roughly in 300 ultra mag.

(it's not a 110fp but a 110 action with a douglas heavy barrel in 300 ultra)

The gun weighs 15.5 lbs total and still beat me like a mule kicking until I had my smith thread the barrel and put a good break on it. I would honestly say now that it isn't any worse than a 308 at half that weight.
