Savage 10FP not firing? Help?

I have a Savage 10FP .308 that when I attempt to fire it with factory ammo the entire trigger assembly freezes up about 90% of the time. It's a new gun with less than 40 rounds through it.

Can anyone help?

If it's that new, I suggest that you return it to Savage or whoever you bought it from.

I expect that anything else might void warranty.
 
The trigger is decocking when you close the bolt. It is wither too light or you are slamming the bolt.

If it is new, it has the accu-trigger. I think first you need to try closing the bolt slowly and see if that helps. These triggers do not take kindly to having the bolt slammed shut. If this solves the problem, I would set the trigger slightly heavier and this will help.

If that does not work, then the trigger is too light to hold the sear and you will need to adjust the trigger to a slightly heavier trigger pull with the tool that came with the rifle, then try again.

If neither one works, call Savage.

I ran into the same problem with the .338 Lapua rifle at a manufacturer's day last fall. The trigger locked up hard. Whatever was wrong was not obvious, the reps had no idea (or acted like they had no idea about the problem), and we weren't going to dismantle the rifle, so I finally got two shots off and quit.
 
Thanks for the quick response. I have tried closing the bolt quickly and slowly/lightly. I'll try setting the trigger to a heavier setting. Thanks again!
 
agree, this is a common problem with the craputrigger. crank up the weight and your problems will most likely go away. if they dont, box it up and send it back to savage.
 
The video shows exactly what I think is happening. The inner safety trigger is getting in the way of the main trigger mechanism. I'll adjust the pull to a heavier setting. Thank you all!!!
 
I've got one Savage with the Accutrigger, and love it! It's never been touched since I took it out of the box, and probably never will be. Factory set it at about 32 oz. On the other hand The Remington I was so horrible, and was completly unsafe and not even a good paper weight. It would freeze up midway in travel, and yes it would fire when the saftey was released. Nobody could fix it so it was replaced with another Remington factory trigger which was no better. Finally we replaced it with one built in 1978, and all is good again. (these are all varmit rigs, and not benchrest guns.) That crap trigger made the Remington look like cheap chinese junk. Plus I never worry about killing anybody
