Salem IR50/50 Results 10/5/08

We ended our IR50/50 season on a very positive note today with 9 shooters contesting the 3-Gun match and 10 shooting the UL match. Conditions were typical for Oct....cool, cloudy, a rain shower, sun and switchy winds between 0-10+mph.

Besides our core group of regular shooters, we were joined today by Kim Monthony and his sons, 10yr old Mark and 8yr old Daniel. All three were shooting their first IR50/50 matches, but have shot some non-sanctioned club matches in the past. Kim got the boys set up for 10.5 and 13.5 class and did just a little bit of coaching at the beginning of the match. Both boys did very well and exhibited excellent bench skills and handled their guns and themselves in a very safe manner. Kim and Mark shot the UL match while Daniel gave me a hand running the clock. Kim was shooting a Turbo/Benchmark that he built for a customer, and won UL-2 with a 249-11X in some tough conditions. I think his customer will be happy with his new rifle! The pic below is Kim shooting the Turbo and Mark shooting a 15lb break barrel rifle.

Kim said they'd be back to shoot with us next season, along with his daughter. I'm hoping I can get my daughter shooting again if she's got someone close to her age to shoot with!

I would like to thank all the shooters who shot with us today and throughout this season for all of your help and support. You all helped to make this the most successful season at Salem, with some of the best attendance numbers in the Northeast. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the range next season!

Thankyou for the Kind welcome!
The boys have their targets hung up on the bedroom walls already! They were both very excited to shoot their first real rim-fire match.
I cant say enough about the great people we met today and how well the boys were treated!
We will be back next year.
Thanks again Kim

Kim,
I'm glad you and the boys had a good time today! Send me an e-mail at TKBanks98@aol.com and I'll send you the complete match results as an Excel file and put you on the mailing list for next years schedule.

Todd,

It sounds like things went very well at Salem on Sunday, and I'm glad to hear see that your match attendance is still growing. But, is it really all that surprising when you take into consideration who's in charge, plus all those great lunches I've been hearing about. I mean, after all, where else can one go in Salem for a good time and good food? :D :D :D

I hope to be able to make it out for at least one of those great lunches next season, and maybe I'll even remember to bring along a gun or two.

Todd and all,
Had a great time at my final match of the year. Now I'm going to go into withdrawl unless I pick up some 22 BR related project. Maybe it's time to give Don Stith a call about a stock for my 541.

Kim - congratulations on your win Sunday. It was a pleasure having you and the boys shooting with us.

Dave and Paul - you guys were missed.

The Eck brothers - missed seeing you guys. Next year!!!

Here's a link to some pictures I took of all the shooters. Cherie, you weren't cold were you???

Best to all,

Michael

Michael,
Thanks for taking the pics, but there's someone missing...you! Congrats on your first HOF point, too. I don't think it will be your last!
Todd

Michael,

What a contrast! I mean, here we have Cheri looking like the forecast was for snow, while on the other end sits Todd looking like he's out to get a phreakin sunburn. Great pictures!

Oh, and Michael, if you're looking for something to do now that the rimfire season has drawn to a close, just go out and buy yourself an airgun, then find out what true accuracy is all about. Michael, I'm telling you, you'd be hooked if you would only sit down behind mine for just one target, the same as Todd did! And, when Todd shot my gun, it was shooting like crap. The next Indoor AGBR match is on Nov. 1st in Holbrook. I'll save you a seat!

Dave

Todd,
Sorry I missed the good time.
Michael, Hope you don't mind me posting your picture. Must have been on the Honey Hole end with Todd as your in a short sleeve shirt. Congrats on you first HOF point.

Aw Dave, you tempt me. Darn man with the holidays coming up, flying down to South Carolina to be with family etc. etc. money is a touch tight.

I know that you are right.

Let me to shoot a fine air rifle and I know I'll be out spending more money on this wonderful, perplexing, frustrating, exhilarating pursuit of small bore accuracy!!!!

I just hurt myself thinking about it.

Paul -- thanks for the photo (...er...I think)

Michael,

Easy fix man! :D Just do as I did and put all of those little extras that have been piling up around the shop, like that extra Suhl, up for sale, (but keep the scope) and that my friend is what will help to transport you over to becoming a multie functional rimfire/airgun shooter.:rolleyes: Of course, you may have to kick in a few extra bucks from your slush fund since you'll need to buy an air tank as well.:eek:

Why don't you come on over to Holbrook on November 1st for their Indoor match. There's always more than one relay happening, so we can easily share my equipment until you get set up. And, the matches don't start until 12:30, so you won't have to drag yourself out of bed extra early to get there. But, keep in mind, I won't be at the December shoot, and may not be at the January or April shoots either as they're scheduled a little close to my knee surgeries, like, I won't even be getting out of the hospital until the day of the December shoot. But, Paul will be there, and probably with more than one gun in-hand, so you should still be able to shoot even if I'm not there.

See you in Holbrook.

Dave
