I HAVE A SAKO P945 IT HAS A LILJA BARREL AND A FACTORY 7 OZ TRIGGER. I AM HAVING A BIT OF A PROBLEM WITH THE GUN AND CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. MOST OF THE TIME IT SHOOTS GREAT BUT EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE IT WILL THOW OUT A BULLET TO THE EIGHT RING. i HAVE BEEN USING ELEY BLACK BOX WITH A SPEED OF 1064. WHEN I TRIED ELEY 1072 AND 1014 IT SHOT ALL OVER THE PLACE. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS??? IS THE SPEED ON THE AMMO TOO FAST OR TOO SLOW??? ALSO THE ACTION HAS A SERIAL NUMBER 958093 ON IT COULD ANYONE TELL ME WHAT YEAR THE ACTION IS FROM??? THANKS FOR YOUR TIME AND INPUT....BILL T

try eley tenex , less flyers !
sporters seem to like slower stuff..jmho

SAKO 94S groups

I just got a SAKO Range (all factory) and am just now learning it. I am thinking you and I are having the same ammo problems rather than gun problems.

So far it likes Eley XTRA Pistol ammo in the 1040-50 range best - but I have been testing at 200 yards only. Some groups have been in the 1"-2" area but I am getting a lot of vetical in some other groups that I cannot explain as due to the rifle.

I have some Tennex on the way and will report back.

I would clean it real well for starters. Might have to use a bit of JB paste.
You need to make sure there is no lead in it. Where do the flyers go? Same place always?

I'd check the head space. Replacement barrels have a tendency to slide forward in the Finnfire. If you find that to be the case....reset headspace and loctite the shank.

After doing what Don suggested I would pull some bullets from some rounds and slug the bore. Make sure the crown is at the tightest point in the choked section of the bore. If the crown is located correctly inspect it closely to see if there is any wear from the jag or brush.

I also like to borescope my bbls in the fired condition to make sure I don't have a leading issue.

Don how can i check the head space i have to push on the bolt to close it has a very long lands mark on it

It is possible to have too little headspace as well as too much. Also possible to have too shallow chamber
There are lots of opinions on engraving lands with the bullet. I prefer the chamber to be deep enough that the bullet just barely contacts the lands.
Head space guages are available for a modest price. Scott Hamilton at Mountain specialties is where I got mine.
I have used an unfired Federal UM1 brass( with bullet pulled) to set the head space on Finnfires. The old UM1 has the most consistent rim thickness brass of all ammo I measured.
If all else fails, find a good rimfire smith to set it for you
