a 15 year dealer of sako products told me he had problems with the allen heads on the ringcap screws rounding out when tightening. i personally have also had these problems. the screws are an odball size and available from beretta for 6 dollars a piece, for the same crappy screws. i came up with a solution. simply run a 6x48 tap in the exsiting holes, then use 6x48 leupold torx screws .400 long and the problem goes away forever. the 6x48 tap is a good bit larger than the exsisting holes and makes a great new thread. just thought i would pass along this solution to a big headache.

the problems still exist for lots of people using the 2.5mm hex bits mounting heavy scopes on recoiling rifles torqing down the srews , and not rediculously tightening . you get to a reasonable point and the proper 2.5 mm bit just rounds. if you never had this problem, that is great, but no one can disagree , a torx head is better. i passed this along for people who had had this problem, and its a lot better than paying 6 bucks a piece, for the same screws. br

Installed a new set of Optilock rings and bases on my L61R yesterday. Both had torx screws. No problem at all. No matter what style ring screws you use, do not over tighten them. Damage to the scope tube can result.
