Hi.
I have Redfield SAKO bases that I vant to use. When I looked at them I noticed that they dont have any screws. The instructions say that none are needed as they will will wedge even tighter upon firing.
That seems reasonable enaugh, but no screws and a $1000 Leupold hangin on there???
So, anyone have experience with these?
Thanks in advance.

Sako mount(s)

tjensen: I'm using the Weaver Sako base mounts on both my L-46 Riihimaki's, and they come with set screws. After sliding onto the dovetail wedge I give them a light tap with a plastic headed hammer, drop a hard plastic "disc" into the screwhole and snug down the set screws. Plastic keeps the screw tip from damaging the cross-hatching. Weaver believes the set screws are necessary, guess Redfield does not. As you, I would not be "comfortable" if depending on a "friction" fit only.

I have those mounts on 3 different Sako's, no set screws...I've never had one come loose or shift zero on me. I thought the same thing when I first saw them!

Just and added note..

Since SAKO was bought out by Beretta the parts and service for older made SAKOs when to hell in a handbasket. I was able to get some L-461 parts through Stoeger a few years back.

I had one hell of a time getting scope bases and rings for my .375H&H.

This is the reason I want buy another SAKO.

I'm wit' you tjensen...... sounds like you're in the cold country..... I say drill and tap a hole for a setscrew just because you go out some day at 40below she might fall off! Or if you DO shoot it cold, the zero might change because the scope slips on tighter.....then when she gets warm she's STUCK!

I lived in Minnesota, I know cold too.

I don't miss it :D

I have never seen an old Redfield set of bases on a Sako that did not stay tight. Tap them in place and shoot away... Recoil tightens them and keeps them tight.

Leupold make a set of rings that fit directly on the Sako dovetail.. they work well too.

Sako bases

I have been shooting sakos for 55 yrs and no bases ever worked loose. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out each shot tightens. I have used them all.

Slide your bases on and they should lock,as they are supposed to.
if not, find a different set. Its really a good set up and requires
no screws.

Tjensen,

I'm assuming there's no muzzle brake on your rifle...is there?
