i rescently purchased an old sako (aprox. from 1960) L579 forester and want to remove the front sight, the sight blade was already removed for the low profile scope and mounts. there are no visible screws anywhere under the blade or anywhere on the front sight.....can someone help? thanks, bill

They're sweated on - at least my L461 was. A little heat & a tap should do it.

You CAN remove that.............

by heating it, but it was silver soldered on, and, from experience, if you remove it, it will cause a discoloration that will NOT be removed, even if you remove the blue and then reblue. Now, that dovetail is not a "standard size"(but it was to the Finns ) why don't you fit, or have a 'smith fit, a dovetail plug that, once fitted properly, would be removed, blued, then reinstalled for a nice, clean, repair. Just a thought, but you know what you like best. HTH.
