Safe to Switch Barrels with the Scope Mounted?

I have Rem 700 Switch barrel rig and its time to switch from the 6br to the 260 Rem. Will it damage the scope to leave it mounted while I do this? Barrel is torqued to 100 ft-lb with anti seize lube. Thanks
 
Unless you are planning on doing some hammering or using an air impact wrench ;), leaving the scope on should not be a problem. I always do it that way. With the right tools, the torque level that you have should not be a problem.
 
I was advised by Gene Bukys to remove scope before removing barrel. The lateral shock to the scope is greater than many realize. Before he told me that, I always left the scope in place. Of course, Gene uses externally adjustable mounts and maybe he worries about the shock to them. I feel better about the procedure with the scope removed. Good shooting....James
