We had our 3rd Airgun Benchrest Match of 2013 and the Ione Triangle reared its ugly head once again. Every time I schedule a match I hope for conditions that are more favorable than the previous match. So far this year I have had the exact opposite occur. This Sunday was the worst, with moderate but continuously switching winds being the conditions for the day. Well, there was one exception, while eating lunch we look out at the course and for the only time during the day we saw the flags hanging limp. That being said we had a great time and hopefully we picked up some new competitors.
In spite of my not posting a match announcement on the Yellow or Airgun Benchrest, we had the biggest turnout of the year with 14 shooters. A huge thank you to Scott S and Ken M for bringing 6 new shooters to the match. I think everyone had a great time and I look forward to seeing many of you again.
Many of the new shooters are hardcore springer shooters so in their honor we created a Heavy Varmint Piston class for all to compete in. There was some serious competition in this class, and considering that this was the first BR match for almost all the springer shooters and that there was only one set of wind flags for the entire match I think the results are pretty impressive. When the smoke cleared the wimpiest rifle in the piston match shot by Mark W was high springer and the highest card in the springer class was shot by Niko with a TX200. One of the most impressive rifles at the match was a Diana 460 shot by Jeff S, who amazed everyone in the plinking contests after the formal match. Jeff consistently picked off paint balls, bottle caps and 223 shells at 50 yards, hanging with Matt L and his FX Revolution and Kyron with this .25 Marauder. Jeff competed in the unlimited class but used the 25M targets rather than the 50yd targets. Had he used the 50 yd target his score wouled have been 10-20% higher giving Matt a run for the class title.
Thanks to all who attended the match, with a special thanks to Ken M who helped with the food and beverages for the day. I hope to see you all again at our next match in August.
