Ruger Hawkeye Varmint/Target Rifle

I have looked for past posts on this rifle and found several but they were all from several years ago, 2010 and earlier. I know Ruger has gone through some changes to their line since then.

I am looking at buying a Ruger Hawkeye Varmint Target rifle in .308 and comparing it to the comparable Savage. I have never owned a Savage but have owned many Rugers and I like them. I also like the look of the Ruger a little better. I would buy one except many of the old reviews had numerous complaints. They also had numerous positive reviews. Usually the complaints were about accuracy, which is the whole point of this kind of rifle.

I have no interest in a tactical rifle, I want this one for varmints and informal target shooting for group size. I don't compete at benchrest. I do reload.

I would appreciate any opinions and experiences about this Ruger based on rifles of somewhat recent manufacture, say after 2012 or so. Thanks.

the advantage goes to savage, in that if it does not shoot,
YOU can change the bbl not pay someone to build one for you.

That is sort of what they were saying several years ago as well. Guess nothing has changed and I should look closely at the Savage.

i have not shot either,
just looking at it from a "what if ".

Look at what it takes to do a bit of "accuracy" work on whatever you choose. For example...how easy would it be to bed the action, how much does it cost (total) for a new barrel...that kind of stuff. Otherwise, it's anybody's guess!

There's some pretty good shooting Savage rifles out there!
