Rocky Mountain Regional?

The Montrose Air Rifle Club is considering hosting a regional here in the late summer or possibly fall. I believe we have what is needed to put on a nice event.....and if we don't, we can acquire it by then.

If anyone might be interested in attending from outside the area.....please post on here and let me know. It almost never rains here, and cloudless skies dominate the forecasts. We would love to have some new faces.

Let me know what you think.

Response

Mike,

There is a pretty good chance you might be able to see some folks from Arizona head out there. My only suggestion would for it not to be in November when the Extreme is happening.
Keep us posted!

Joe's regional in California is scheduled for September 13-14. The Oregon regional is shown for 1st week of October. So, late October might be a good choice. Look out for conflicts with FT events around your area. Also, an announcement on the Yellow forum will find a different audience.

OK, good suggestions....thanks.

Its about 9-10 hours from Phoenix....if I remember correctly.

It won't be in November for sure. That's a sketchy time of year here. Could hit 80.....or snow.....or both. Even late October has the chance of cold and snow. Sometimes it's beautiful......but it really can't be depended upon.

Mid to late August may be the best. Average Highs of 82 and lows of 50 or so. Best if all the leaves are still on the trees for extra shade, too.

As far as I know.....no FT anywhere close, or I would have been there. :D

Is there anything mid to late August that may be a conflict?

Please consider a spring piston class as was done at the National competition in Phoe

I guess there used to be a separate spring piston class but it was dropped. Sixteen shooters however, participated in the spring piston class during the recent National outside Phoenix. I'm hoping that other match directors can include a spring piston class (even if it is only an "exhibition" class) over the coming months so that it can be determined if there is real and current interest in a reconstituted class.

We've seen slow but steady growth here in Phoenix for spring piston guns but it has taken open invitations to spring gunners so they know they are welcome, a separate class so they can be competitive among themselves, lots of word of mouth support, and emails to reinforce the message.

BTW: I would sign up in a heartbeat if there were a spring piston class. For some unknown reason my commercial off-the-shelf Airwolf has been moved to what seems to be an experimental class it would not be competitive within, so I need to either shoot my springer or have nothing to bring.

Thank you.

To be honest, I hadn't considered a spring class. It's not because I'm against them, I just don't know anyone that owns one locally that has wanted to compete.

We're still in the "deciding if we want to do this stage", but hopefully we will make some decisions tomorrow when we get together to shoot.

As far as your Airwolf being put into a class that it won't be competitive in......I don't personally feel that is the case. Nobody is taking advantage of the extra latitude that is being offered in the hybrid or unlimited classes. Your gun will still be as competitive as it always was. There is no proof that the electronic "this or that" allowed in the Hybrid class is even beneficial, anyway. If you compare the Unlimited class records to any of the other classes......they are actually lower.

That said......I don't recall ever seeing an Unlimited or Hybrid class at anything other than a club match. Could be wrong, though.

It's more like your Airwolf got put into a class that nobody really shoots. Believe me, I understand the frustration......my electronic rifle got booted, too.

RK Regional

I would drive to make it,if it works out right, but ....include a Springer Class. Thats how all this got started!!But I'm just an old Logger talking, grew up shooting starlings and sparrows out of the fruit trees! I still have my Dads Sheridan that is 48 years old! Thanks for letting me share. Pete

Pete,

Once again, congratulations on your performance in Arizona. I hope it works out for Mike to hold this regional event and you get to attend.

My goal is to stay within 20 points of you next time

Pete,

I hope they say yes to a spring piston class. I need to shoot against you as much as possible if I want to call myself a real air gunner.

By the way, can I videotape you next time we shoot together. I need to study everything you do so I can copy as much of it as possible and merge it into my shooting technique.

Here's a thought for consideration

Mike,

If there is a spring piston class I can shoot that plus bring my Airwolf. You and I can then shoot our electronic guns against each other since it seems most people don't want us shooting our new fangled fancy guns against them.;)

Seriously, thanks for considering my request. I'd even settle for an "exhibition" spring piston match if doable, and I'll publicize that there is a class so you don't have to do a lot of extra work to get the word out about it.

Best wishes with the match whatever you decide.

We talked more about the regional, today. We think it is probably best to hold off on this for now. Ross, Ben and I are super busy.....and it will take a lot of effort for us to swing this. In fact......it may take more than we have available at this time.

We're a young club.....so maybe next year there will be more manpower available.
