Rl 17

I just got my hands on 3lbs of RL 17. I will soon be switching barrels on my 308. I also am intending to go to a 175 berger VLD instead of the 168s I'm using now. The hype that I read says that RL17 is the same burning rate as IMR 4350 and will give better velocities than Varget or RL15. Anyone shoot this powder in a 308 with 175 Bergers? Any thruth to the hype?

I haven't tried it with 175s, but from what I've read with that light of a bullet it doesn't buy you a whole lot over Varget. I do however use RL17 in my 308 with 190 & 200 SMKs, and I'm getting a comfortable 2715 & 2630 fps respectively. I think I have a thread around somewhere with load info. A lot of guys are using it with 208 amax as well if you have the throat for it.

The only other thing I've run it in is a 270 WSM pushing 130gr accubonds at 3480 fps. With the right case / bullet weight combination it does what they claim. However, it may or may not be accurate at those faster speeds in your rifle. Test it & find out.
