11 shooters showed for today's club score match. Weather was great for August - not too windy, but at least interesting. We shoot 200 yards first because it gives us a chance before the swirling starts. Today was a great match - best this year I think.

After 200 yards here is where things stood:

1st place Bill Dittman 250-7x
2nd place Scott Dittman 250-4x
3rd place Ray Brooks 249-6x

production was won by Dan McElvoy with a 234-4x

So this is where the real story starts.... I am behind Dad by 3x's - everyone including myself knows that Gaining x's at 100 yards is near impossible, so i deduct that my only chance is to start shooting 50-5x targets.
On the first one Dad shoots 50-3x...I counter with a 50-5x....wow only 2 more x's and I'm ahead. Next target I shoot 50-4x; Dad follows with 50-2x.
WOHoo!!! got him! I'm in the lead. Next target I put on the pressure with a 50-5x....Dad follows with a ....you guessed it, 50-5x. Next target we again both shoot 50-4x's.
So going into the final match, I am one x ahead, I know if I shoot a 5x...hey I win, but i cannot let him gain on me because he has already won the tie breaker. I sit down - wind is good - I shoot 3 wipe-outs quick, move to target 4, lay down a good shot - I look at it as I push the rifle back - what? It is almost a nine - cut the ring low. I regroup but time is short and i miss the last x by a hair. 50-3x. I watch Dad finish his target....5 wipeouts - 50-5x for the win.

Here is where we finished 100 yards:

1st Scott Dittman 250-21x
2nd Dave Rabin 250-20x
3rd Bill Dittman 250-19x

production was one by Dan McElvoy with a very respectable 239-2x.

this put the final Agg as follows:

1st place Bill Dittman 500-26x
2nd place Scott Dittman 500-25x
3rd place Wes Burke 498-26x
production - Dan McElvoy 473-6x

Other notables are that Bob Eikenberry shot his first 50-5x in his first match with his new 30BR. Dan McElvoy shot a 50-1x with a stock Remington .223.

Even though I finished second ... I think I shot as well as I have ever done - still got schooled by the ol' man.

Good shooting Dad!

I couldn't figure out why my decision making process seemed to go haywire as the match progressed. When I got home and saw this I figured it out. I call it 30BR shoulder. Scott has theorized that shooting a 6mm at 200 and then the 30 at 100 could possibly be advantageous. I will probably try his idea at our next score match.

I have my own idea: Separate 6mm and 30 cal class in VFS.

HEy! HEy!

I don't think Wilbur lets nekked pics on here!

Ray - good shooting Saturday. I think this year you have moved from "newbie" to someone we have to watch out for at every match.
