We will host our first rimfire match on our new 25 and 50 yd. range this Saturday. Range will be open at 8 AM. Shooting to start promptly at 10 AM. Entry fee is an extremely cheap $5.00. Arrive early.
We shoot one target at 25 and one at 50 yds. Re-entry is available at $2.00 per target up to a maximum of three targets per yardage. Only your best score counts.
We have a class for benchrest (target) rifles and a class for factory rifles. Factory rifles can be upgraded somewhat and still shoot in that class. The winner and second place finisher in each class will be awarded cash and a valuable winner's pin which is sure to be a collector's item before you get home.
Coffee and donuts available at the club at 8 AM. All competitors are invited to meet at McFarland's Tavern after the match for good food and drink and excuses for dumb shooting.
Questions... Dick @ 989-386-3932 or Mike @ 989-539-7285.
Can't beat the price and the club has built us great new concrete benches and of course it is all covered in case of foul weather. Rimfire is a new venture for Harrison and we are looking forward to a good turnout.
I am going for the donuts and coffee. It's an old retired cop thing...
How about posting some directions to get there from all directions in the Wonderous State of Michigan............. Please not just "Sand Savages" directions.
Dick-refresh our memories. What target will we be shooting. Is it going to rain? Id love to get the rain up here-we can take several inches so long as it dont come in a couple hours.
We have a map on our match schedule flyer. If I were smarter, it could be posted here.
Written directions as follows...
Exit 127 at old 27 Harrison exit. There are Old 27 exits at both the North and South ends of town. Turn toward Harrison from either of these exits. Take old 27 to Cranberry Lake Rd. It's on the North end of Harrison next to the airport and is clearly identified by a big green sign. Turn West on Cranberry Lake Rd. Go aprox one mile to Harrison Ave. Turn South on Harrison Ave. Club aprox 1/4 mile on East side of road. Can't miss it.
Should you be coming in on M-61 (either from the East or West) simply turn North when you reach Old 27 which is the main drag thru Harrison. When you get to Cranberry Lake Rd. ... see above.
We will be shooting the IBS 50 yd. rimfire target at both the 25 and 50 yd. ranges. I purposely chose an easier target to make it less intimidating for new shooters shooting Factory Rifles. We have quite a few club members for whom this will be the first match.
The bull is 1/2" dia. with a 1/16" dot for an "X". I expect a lot of 250 - 25X's from the benchrest/unlimited class shooters at 25 yds. We use "Best Edge" scoring. Good luck on getting 25 X's at 50. Ties will be settled by Creedmore rules. Prizes for both classes will be awarded for the "Grand" only, the combined 25 and 50 yd. scores.
We don't care if it rains. (Besides when it rains my grass grows and I really hate that.) The 25/50 yd. range has a big concrete slab and a large roof which covers and protects the range. The back of the range is completely protected by tarps. Additionally we have a building across from the range (real close) where there will be tables and chairs, coffee and donuts and where one will probably hear a lot of BS and excuses.
Chuck, if you are coming from home, just get off 127 at the North Harrison (Old 27) Exit. Go toward town and hang a right on Cranberry Lake Ave just past the airport. Go to Harrison Ave. and turn left. Club on left.
Look forward to seeing you. I promise not to steal your ear muffs.
The building that Dick is refering to for donut eating and socializing can also be used for cleaning. The clubhouse will also be open for use.
The weather forecast is now for 80 degrees and partly sunny. The Benchrest Gods age looking down on us...
arrive as early as is possible for you. We will have a number of new competitors who will need coaching in just how a match is conducted.
I made up a sheet with a pretty full description of the conduct of a match and passed same out to club members who have never shot before. I hope that will help some. I'll take copies to the range and pass out more to all the newbies as they register.
The Harrison Sportsmans Club will be selling raffle tickets at the shoot saturday for a factory class rifle and scope. The gun will be given away on saturday also. Just somthing else to look forward to.
But, we have a Youth Day planned for Saturday and our rimfire YooperShoot Sunday.
Bill Jones is planning to go. Butch Hongisto did some work on his Anschutz 2013. Butch put on a Broughton barrel and glued in the action. Shoots much better now.
