Is it is important for accuracy that the bullet be engraved by the rifling when a the round is chambered?

Asked another way. Should the bullet be engraved by the rifling when a round is fully inserted into the chamber?

And another way, is it really a "Match Chamber" if the bullet isn't engraved when fully inserted.

Now for the killer question: How far should the bullet be engraved??

Somebody please take a stab at this!

On a bolt action I believe a match chamber requires minimum body dimensions and the bullet into the rifling... often it will be hard to extract an unfired chamber round because of the bullet engagement...

I don't have any knowledge of how far it should be engraved... I rely on quality reamers from quality makers... my .22 LR match reamer is from Dave kiff...

Thanks for the reply. If you have the time, could you chamber a round in your rifle and measure how far the bullets is engraved. I'm assuming your rifle shoots pretty good!

I've ordered a reamer from Pacific Tool (Dave Kiff) but it will be a couple of weeks before arrives. I have several .22 rimfire barrels and only two of them actually engrave the bullet when a round is fully inserted. One engraves the bullet .125. The other about .80. These are my best shooting barrels. I shoot these out of the same action/stock. I'm thinking if I re-chamber the others maybe they will shoot better. But wondering how much engraving is too much.

In center fire many people say the jam is critical, I assume the same is true for rimfire.

You will...

...get some more responses if you ask this question on the rimfire forum.
If you haven't already.
