Rimfire barrel leading

I have not been into rimfires for a while but was wanting to check if anyone here can tell me if there is a fairly safe way of cleaning leading out of a rimfire barrel. Is the old story of the gun was used with domestic ammuniton and I think it has caused some fouling ahead of the chamber in the gun. I just ran some patches through and see some lead flakes but I bet I did not get it all out. Is there any solvents or cleaners I might try or what all does everyone use these days.

There is a product called TM that is the best that I know of. You can use a fiber brush to apply it. Use a good bore guide and a bronze brush. That should do it.

Wipeout is also marketing a lead removing foam/gel much like their copper removing product. I have not personally tried it but their copper remover has received some fairly good reviews!

Use straight turpentine to remove the lead. This is an old trick with lead bullet shooters in all disciplines. The Turp will grab on to the lead and drag it out with a tight patch. It won't disolve it, it physically removes it. You will see it on the patch.

I have used barrels from several different manufacturers, Shilen, Douglas, Lilja, Benchmark etc. After using a borescope periodically I have not found leading to be a problem in a well lapped barrel. I also have some older guns, Winchester 52's, and a Remington 37 which will lead up in a heartbeat. To remove it, I use either a small diameter bronze brush wrapped in bronze wool which you can get from Brownell's or a .22 felt cleaning patch impregnated with bronze fibers which is also available from Brownells. Then I wet it with ordinary brake cleaner. After just a few short strokes it comes out clean
