Sorry if my question may seem a little childish, I'm new in this forum and hope to benefit from the advice of more experienced shooters. I am taking part in Benchrest competition here in Melbourne (Australia) mostly BR30, I even won a regional championship, the best results that I obtaine is with a cartridge that is considered to be low grade, Gecko green box. I tried the Eley Tenex, the RWS Special Match that cost 3 times as much, with very poor results.
It is true that every rifle is different and that they have their own preferences?
My rifle is a CZ 453 heavy barrel, very accurate, topped with a Bushnell Elite 4200 4-16x42 AO.

Yes that is correct

I think that is a correct statement and I think it is great that the Geco is working for you. The Anshultz seems to love sk rifle match but I will not win much with it compared to Eley match. The more expensive ammo is a whole lot more consistent though it should be at more than double the price.

Thank you Ben for your replay, I agree with you that the most expensive are the more consistent, the problem is that if you want to practice with Tenex or R50 will cost you a fortune.

Did you clean your barrel right down to clean metal before you started shooting the ELEY?

Hi Tim, this is a good question, I do not clean the barrel very often because someone at the club told me that the 22 does not need to be cleaned every time and in fact shoot more accurately if there is some fouling in the barrel.
Also how come this fouling does not compromise the accuracy with the Geco cartridges and the Eley Standard?

Well the good news is this is fixable. First.....stop assuming guys at the club are giving you good intel. Second.... Most top flight guns get cleaned after every target. Get a bore guide, get a decent rod, a proper bronze brush and clean your bore with solvent and dry patches. Do it a couple times. Third....... ELEY will not shoot over layers of fouling laid down by other brands, it works when you coat your nice clean bore with that nice expensive lube you just bought.
 
You are getting good advice regarding keeping your bore clean, regardless of the ammo your rifle likes. Another reason why Eley may not like your rifle may have to do with your chamber. I have tried Eley in some of my regular .22s that don't have match chambers and it shot no better than the cheaper stuff. When you are ready to get a match grade rifle, you will find that Eley is an excellent performer. In the meantime, keep your bore and chamber clean and shoot whatever your rifle likes best.
 
Thank you guys for the good advises, I will clean my rifle properly and I will keep cleaning it after every outing, I wasn't expecting so many replays, this is a very good forum.

Note that after you clean it may take several shots for the rifle to settle down. I usually shoot about five shots on the top of the target before I even go to the sighter bulls.

I just last week sold my older grey adjustable stocked, 2013 act. Anschutz BR-50 w/Hoen tuner, and was looking at the book that came with it, which read--clean a new rifle every 5,000 rds. and a not so new rifle every 10,000 rds. as I remember...Is that correct...??? Or, is my CRS really getting bad...??? The 50M 10 shot test target that came with it measured .279"... Just thought I would bring that up...
I have shot some BR, both Rimfire & Centerfire, and was on this forum good bit, but a long time ago... Rimfire match ammo was expensive, and the centerfire matches were always a long way off, so I picked up and started shooting F-class, which had a range and matches about 15 mi. from home.... I have not shot anything so to speak since the F-class Nationals in 05...
Still have my CF BR LV & HV guns (6 PPCs) and my F-class gun which is my HV w/weight & long range barrels 6 Dasher & 6.5x284...

I shoot at the SSAA Wodonga range. Know what you mean about Oz ammo costs!

I just turned a delrin cleaning rod guide for my .22 and a neat little device to protect the chamber from the cleaning rod (mine is 0.20" dia). A pre-loved .22 case was drilled .021 to slip on the rod and fit into the chamber. It works. Now looking for some 0.25 delrin to make a bore hugging jag to prevent the cleaning rod from touching at the crown.

I Danny, I don't know if you can find Eley or RWS 22lr ammunitions in Wodonga, I live in Melbourne and it is impossible to find any of both, now I bought some Lapua but I haven't tried it yet, I am very disappointed with the two major brand, I contacted the importer of Eley in NSW and he has confirmed that it hasn't distributors in Melbourne, Forbes was the distributor of RWS for many years but he doesn't any more and nobody knows who replaces him.
I hope that Lapua is as good as the others.

Elks Hunting & Fishing in Albury stocks nearly every type of rimfire ammo available in Australia www.elks.com.au/.

Last time I was in there (just before Xmas) they offered me RWS Rifle match, RWS R50, RWS Special Match, Lapua Midas or Norma #1 off the shelves. They also had some other brands, but were out of Tenex (which they sometimes stock).

There is more information, misinformation myths and opinions on rimfire bore cleaning than any other subject I know of except maybe sex. When to clean, whether to clean, how to clean, how often to clean, what kind of rod to use (or maybe just a bit of rag on a piece of weedeater line?), what kind of bore cleaner, etc. etc. and so forth. Here's a link I recently got from a shooting buddy (posts as Travelor) that is the most complete, comprehensive, detailed and thoughtful study of the subject I've ever seen. By far. It clears up a lot of misunderstandings and has made me completely rethink everything I ever knew or thought I knew on the subject. I tested the Eley Edge last week and was surprised with the consistency. The Edge is very affordable at about $11US it is a good practise ammo. Not sure what the availability is in Aus. The speed was 1065
