Can someone point me in the direction of the requirements a rifle must meet for a given class? as in weight limits, stock deminsions etc... I plan on building a rifle soon, and wanted to make sure I know what specifications to build it to. I also have a 40xbr that I was wondering what class I might could shoot it in until I get a real BR rifle built. It has a wooden benchrest stock with a 2 5/8" forearm. The barrel measures 19 1/8" to the recoil lug, and it is a straight taper from 1.20 down to .875 I have not weighed the rifle yet on a accurate set of scales but it seems to weigh between 9-10 pounds without a scope. Any help you guys could offer would be much appreciated. ~Jackson

NBRSA rulebook is on this site, so is the IBS. The NBRSA, last I checked is very dated, but not a whole hell of a lot has changed. The guy running the IBS site (Dick Grosbier) keeps really up on to date on the IBS site. Either way there are a few classes

Unlimited... Just as it reads. group

Hunter... 6x scope, 30-30 capacity, 2.25in wide forend 10 pound rifle, barrel taper, provisions for second shot, action not wider than 1.400 inches. score

Varmint hunter... same as hunter, no cartridge restrictions. score

Heavy Varmint... any scope, 3 in wide forend, stock restrictions, max weight of 13.5 pounds, no caliber restriction. used for both group and score

Light Varmint... Same as HV only 10.5 pounds. used for both score and group

Sporter... same as Light Varmint, but in sporter your rifle must have larger than .22 cal, (this makes the wimps step up LMAO:D) used for group

Varmint For Score (VFS)... can be LV or HV, competes together depending on clubs particulars, used for score in IBS only

All of these are for short range BR 100-300 yards registered competition. Lang Range 600, and 1000 yard have different rules and different rifles that I am not familiar with. A factory rifle can compete in Factory class but it is not a record class, it is entry lever meant to attract shooters to the sport and see what it is before building a rifle.

minor clarification

Maximum 3" wide forend

Less, such as your 2 5/8" is acceptable.
