I often see rifles for sale that decline sales to California. I want to put an Anshutz 2013 in the classified and do not want to clash with any laws anywhere. Please advise your thoughts and knowledge!

Thank You,

You will have no more trouble selling/shipping that rifle to a California buyer than you would to any other state. And it's spelled 'Anschutz' to be as accurate as that rifle probably is. :D

The rifle needs to be sent to an FFL in California, who can then process the transfer to the buyer. No big deal.

The people who decline to sell stuff to California buyers are either concerned about so-called assault rifle bans and handgun-specific laws -- which is understandable -- or they're just being bigoted wankers who don't understand the real story here -- which is their prerogative.

If that rifle is in 'free rifle' config, I might be interested in it, and I use an FFL dealer in Folsom, CA who will make the transaction easy for you and me. Please PM me terms and pics if the rifle isn't a BR rig.

You cannot just ship it to a CA FFL holder without going through another layer of paperwork where State of CA officials verify the FFL and issue the approval for them to receive it. This is a fairly recent change that you need to research before selling and shipping to a CA buyer. The reason you are seeing so many ads saying "no CA sales" is that sellers do not want the extra hassle and paperwork of dealing with the state agency there.

Not entirely correct. An individual can ship directly to a California FFL as long as the FFL will accept from a non licensee. Any FFL dealer who wants to ship into California must get a letter of permission (only the first time)from the California department of justice. I have had both types of transfer since the new regulations took effect, and the dealer had already gotten the letter for another transfer, and was no more problem than any other mail transaction.

Right. It's a piece of cake, and requires only an email confirmation between shipping person (who does NOT have to be an FFL) and receiving FFL (in California) that the recipient's FFL is valid. Some of us really know the scoop, because we live here, and buy rifles from out of state, and it is no sweat. But don't let the facts get in the way of a good rumor.

And there is your answer. Those of us who don't live in CA do not know the scoop. There are so many twists and turns to city laws, county laws, and state laws that it's not worth the aggravation. THAT is why you see so many sellers decline sales to CA.

It's not our fault, it's yours.

California sales

I also "discovered" the additional requirement, form included to be sent to the state capitol, Dept. of Justice, was included with the rifle when shipped to the buyers FFL. Was not comfortable doing it on my own, so had my local FFL take care of the whole transaction. The piece of mind alone made the slight extra expense worthwhile.

Thanks for all the useful replies, appreciate it.

It is the BR50 model
