The last match of the Harrison Sportsmans Club Benchrest season has come and gone. It just doesn’t seem possible that we have fired 10 matches and that October is right in our faces! Some of the trees in the area are starting to present their colorful hues of reds and yellows. Now for the long, long wait for May to roll around so that we can begin to shoot benchrest again ‘up north’.

First off, there are many thank you’s well deserved of mentioning. Bill Stiverson for maintaining the target holders, getting the supplies for the scoring shack (coffee, donuts, etc.), and registering shooters. Dick Wright for providing many entertaining stories of deer hunting and scoring targets. Jim Guinn and Charlie Derdoff for running the relays (and there are a few others too that have pitched in also but I can’t remember who they are). And for Brian & Helen Albee for being the ‘weather vane’ by which all others judge whether they are ‘in it or not’.

The Factory Class was all .22’s this time. Winning the Factory Class Jackpine Savage Invitational Trophy was Kurt Krug shooting through the typical Harrison 360 degree winds with a 0.3904”! Second place was commanded by another Jackpine Savage, Doug Mulder punching out his 0.4958” aggregate. And the hand clap (third place) was won by Dan Ryan with his 0.5996”. The Sandbagger Trophy in the Factory Class was awarded to Jim Guinn with his fine 0.7642.

The LV Class was all 6PPC’s. Jim Millitello was the outright winner of the LV Class Jackpine Savage Invitational Trophy. His aggregate of 0.2324” outpaced all other LV guns by far. Matt Dardas came in second place with a 0.2912”. And winning the hand clap in LV was none other than one of those Jackpine Savages, Elton Roundtree with a fine 0.3792”. The Sandbagger Trophy in the LV Class was awarded to Brian Albee and Coach Helen with a fine 0.3952”!

Small groups in the LV Class…..
Match #1 Jim Millitello 0.234”
Match #2 Jim Millitello 0.244”
Match #3 Jim Millitello 0.190”
Match #4 Matt Dardas 0.153”
Match #5 Jim Millitello 0.235”

Small groups in the Factory Class…..
Match #1 Kurt Krug 0.333”
Match #2 Bill Stiverson 0.439”
Match #3 Doug Mulder 0.344”
Match #4 Kurt Krug 0.329”
Match #5 Kurt Krug 0.381”

This has been an extremely fun season of shooting with great friends at the Harrison Sportsmans Club. A 2015 schedule will be published shortly so stay tuned. See you all in May!

I really hate...

to see the last match of the season roll around. May 2015 seems such a long way away...

Matt deserves a special thanks for his computer expertise and posting the best match results here we've ever had. Life got better when Matt started shooting BR with us.

There's lots to do here in the fall. Deer season (archery) starts 1 Oct. and runs till the end of the year. Rifle deer season is the last half of November. Each fall the Wright's celebrate their anniversarywith a color tour in the old Porsche of Northern Michigan with stops at the blackjack tables of the many Indian casinos that we have.

I don't wanta talk about winter after the holidays. Had I been a lot smarter forty years ago we would have a house in Prescott to repair to in January, February and March.

Thanks to everybody who came and shot with us this year. We'll be back starting the second Saturday in May. Schedules for 2015 will be posted here around the holidays. We are thinking about running smallbore rimfire matches next year. They would be 50 yd. score on our 50 yd. range which is as good as the 100 yd. range and practically unused. Anybody interested?

It would appear the reputation of the expertise of the Harrison Hounds scared off the Holton Hustlers for this Nationals warm up match.
Or is it the Harrison Hustlers and Holton Hounds?
