Research

When a new viewer, asks a question on this forum, they are often turned off by many of the suggestions they receive. Just how much research did they do before asking their questions? I just went through many of the FAQ sections, and found it very informative, and maybe there should be a "Sticky", that would suggest information seekers go there first. Of course the FAQ section would need updating to include more RF information.

Fred,
That's good point. The search function also works very well to find posts that are relevent to the question being asked.

A good example

Yes I just posted a question about a winchester 1890 pump 22 riflesmith and the response I got was really classic. The funny thing was I was trying to show my friend how helpful this site could be after he bought a winchester and it didnt function well.I learned a good lesson.

Vintage Rifles

Mike:
Keep in mind, this is a modern BR site, where vintage equipment is not used. I agree, your question was not handled properly.

reasearch

I do alot of searches for information and sometimes come up with nothing. I find often that small word searches (3-4) yield no results even though i know there are matches in threads. Do a search for "hob" in rimfire and you will find no results even though we just had a fairly long thread discussing them. Im not saying everyone does tons of research before asking questions. sometimes its just chit-chat, being bored or lazy..

That is because "hob" was only discussed in Calfee threads, and all those threads have been deleted...............Don

Search engines

On a lot of discussion forums, the "search" function will only work for strings of 4 or more characters. Words like "hob", "fun" "ls1", etc. will not show any results.

questons

may i suggest your vintage 22 or any 22 question past b/r that you go to rimfirre central. there are devisions for each manufacture and people that are truly gifted regarding vintage rimfires.

it sort of started as a 1022 board and has expanded way past that. good people there also.

Your right

Crappie"
I hate to use the word Crappie, but if that's really a person asking a sensible question, then I will. You are correct, that the Search function doesn't recognize non words. A HOB, is nothing more than a Chamber Iron. I know that's probably not the correct name either, but that's what I've called it for years. What it does, it to smooth the lands in leade area of the chamber/bore. The transition from the chamber to the bore. That may or not make sense to you, but that's the way this Ole-Timer understands the terminology. Lapping a barrel after chambering, will achieve similar results, just takes longer. The other-way, is to just shoot the rifle for a hundred round or so and achieve close to the same results.
