reproduction military barrel

A customer has a 1917 enfield that's nice, except that the bore is terrible. It patterns at even close range, & he wants a new barrel. I told him to hang it on the wall, but he insists.

Does anyone make a repro, issue style barrel for these?

Regards, Ron

Issue barrels are still available for them. Try Numerich arms. but, yes you could order a custom barrel contoured that way. It would be interesting to have an otherwise GI 1917 in, say, 25-06.

Before you get too deep into the new barrel thing, make sure you can get the old one off. The 1917's barrels were put on with brutal torque. Some made by Eddystone actually have cracks in the reciever ring from the barreling process.

Most barrelmakers will duplicate a contour for you. For the Enfield, they have to start with a 1 5/16 blank which might add a bit to the cost. Check with McGowan in Kalispell, Montana. They do special contours for very reasonable prices and the barrels I've used have been very good for field rifle use. Regards, Bill.

Yes they drink too much, and don't care who they go home with.

You might check with Wilson and Criterion (Krieger). I think one or the other did a run for CMP a year or so ago. They may be in the process of making another batch.
