Is the superior shooting (tubb) speedlock firing pin assembly for a remington 700 a drop in fit ?
They advertise it is , is there anything that needs to be done to make it work properly or is it just a drop in part as they say it is ?
I have a Jewel trigger also if it makes any differance
Any replys appreciated
thanks Jason

Why do you need it?

I want to change the colour of the bolt shrould to match the rest of the bolt and also gain the small benifits of a faster pin.
Can you help me with my question ?
Thanks Jason

Jason,

I think what butch is getting at is if you have good ignition, you should fall back on the old princeple...if it ain't broke, don't fix it. The primary problem with the tubb firing pin setup, is a lighter pin with heavier spring will cause more vibrations in the firing procedure. A faster lock time than a normal remington is generally only an advantage in offhand, or prone type shooting where the theory is that it cuts down the time it takes for a bullet to leave the bore once the trigger sear disconnects thus, allowing less body movement on sight picture. I would just have the shroud you have colored or have a new shroud fitted. You can also run into a problem of firing pin tip clearance (might make it worse...then again...might make it better) firing assy fit in bolt body (see prior remark). Depending on how often you fire and whether or not you leave your firing pin in cocked position while storing, a spring replacement every now and then is all you need. Overal, if you want to try it...go for it but keep the stock assy and see if there is any accuracy change. You might want to go back to the old assembly.
